Jewelry Testing Kit 10K, 14K, 18K, 24K Gold, Silver, Platinum Test Solutions with Scratch Stone, 30X Loupe, Instructions, and Bamboo Storage Box

This metal testing kit comes with everything you need to verify the type and quality of metal you're looking at. In addition to this kit, you will need safety goggles, rubber gloves, and baking soda, in order to use it safely. The kit comes in an intricately compartmented wooden box. Most of the compartments are small and designed to hold your various acids and chemicals closely. It comes with a 30x jeweler's loupe and a scratch stone with a non-slip surface on the back. There is an included instruction booklet, but the procedure is very easy; scratch your metal item on the stone, back and forth a few times, in a spot that won't show the scratch. Really, the scratch is very minor; I couldn't see it without the loupe after I did it. But still, try to pick a spot in the back of the piece if you can. Next, apply your clearly marked, appropriate acid from the kit. Repeat if necessary (there are several formulas for testing gold). The instruction booklet will help you interpret positive or negative results based on whether or not the line dissolves fully, partially, or not at all. Then, carefully clean the stone with a solution of baking soda (to neutralize the acid) and water, dry, and put it away for next time. Easy and fun! It works great, and it takes longer to set up for the test than it does to do the actual test, which is pretty typical for sciencey things. My only complaint is, I wish the box had a poison sticker or brand on it, because something about the plain wooden box attracts people to it. They make a bee-line for it and open it without asking. I'll have to make my own sticker or mark, although that might make people even MORE curious. Anyway, that doesn't effect the quality or the accuracy of the kit, it's still a 10/10 for quality, accuracy, ease of use, and a really well-made storage box.

Easy to use and read the results. I use it for jewelry we find while metal detecting. It does not damage the jewelry. It comes in a very convenient box for storing everything I need to identify the precious metal I find. I liked it so much I bought two more kits, one for each of my sons.

Great kit! It’s nice to have the box to keep everything in so it’s nice and organized. I LOVE that this kit comes with a loop! It’s really difficult to see the print on some jewelry pieces so this is REALLY HELPFUL! I do wish that it was packaged a bit better. Some of the liquids seep through the shrink wraps around the top of the bottles. Otherwise, a great kit for a beginner like myself.

Love this kit however I wish the scratch pad was a little bit bigger. But it does work grate and have enjoyed using it.

The products is fair. However upon first using the bottle of silver acid the bottle was leaking. The cap was tight and shrink wrapped. Thankfully I had gloves on . After taking the cap off. The inside of the cap was all wet and a drop of acid went onto my finger with glove on. There was no puncture hole in the bottle so I'm not sure where the leak is from . Rather disappointed and concerning especially to someone who's first time using chemicals and acids like this . Thankfully I used ppe even when it shouldn't have been required opening "sealed" new bottles . The stone also had some residue on it . Actually looked like a possible small pre test was done on it . For whatever reason it wasn't a fresh looking surface .
