Absolutely enjoyable project
These projects are enjoyable but can be challenging. My biggest complaint is that sometimes when "removing or punching" the parts from the boards, a small piece of the part may "flake off". This can sometimes be prevented by using a Sharp utility knife or razor blade to cut the "tabs" that hold the pieces to the board. These are usually minor annoyances and do not usually affect the overall project. But it is important to sand any roughness from the edges of parts. Certain "phases" of assembly can be challenging. So, its important to place attention on the instruction details. But I greatly enjoy the challenges and they provide great satisfaction when things come together properly (usually always if you pay attention to your tasks). I definitely rate these as five (5) in challenge and accomplished satisfaction.

owl clock looks great
Overall I really like this product. I found the pieces easy to remove from the laser cut sheets. The directions need to be looked at carefully to make sure of what to do, but were very good. I'm still having a problem making the pendulum work and the timer. Since I am not a Mr Fix-it, I think this is an advanced kit. There is another clock kit that is easier to put together. Both look great and work as clocks.

I'm good at these puzzles so I stain, poly, and paint all the pieces first. Then I glue all the parts that won't need to move and it worked perfectly the first time and now it's a beautiful, sturdy piece of furniture

Purchased for Granddaughter
My granddaughter and I both love owls. She is 13 and artsy. And while I would have loved this for myself, she is intimidated by the number of pieces and getting it to work right. She has painted the pieces, but has not yet attempted to put it together...and may never. Her dad said he would help her. If I had put it together and then given it to her, that would have been a different story. I would buy this again, but for myself. I think all these puzzles are awesome.

Quality is amazing!!
My husband and I just retired and we LOVED putting this together.. together! The pieces are really good quality! The instructions are very easy to follow. Every step is given in diagrams. There is one thing I was a little disappointed in though. The clock part runs on battery, not by swinging of the pendulum. If you wind it up, the pendulum swings and the gears move, until it winds down in about an hour. It's fun to listen to it click and see the gears move. The grandkids really like it when I wind it up! There is one problem we ran into after it was all put together and wound up,,the pendulum kept stopping every minute or so. Apparently our mantle isn't perfectly level. I had to but a small piece of paper, folded in half, under one of the front legs. That seemed to fix the problem.

Tricky little guy!!
This thing was tricky for a first time builder! Looks great though! Make sure to wax the pieces it says to wax very well, or the timer binds up and it will not work! Looks amazing though!!

Fun to build, but note...
We got this as a project for my wife and me to build together. I've built things all my life, from scratch and from kit, but my wife hasn't. This looked like fun and it really was enjoyable to put together. The Ikea style wordless instructions are surprisingly clear.. The plywood used is very high quality and the laser cutting is first rate. The entire engineering of the clock is quite amazing. Now the negatives. First of all, all of those gears don't run the clock itself. That's a typical battery operated quartz movement. It works perfectly so if you just want a time piece, it's fine and there's no noisy ticking to keep you awake if you keep the clock in your bedroom. All that gearwork is to run a countdown timer and that's entirely independent of the timekeeping. You turn a dial at the back to the desired time, then wind a spring for the pendulum and a second one for the chime which is supposed to ring at the end of the set time. Ours has never worked properly. Mind you, I've restored old mechanical clocks so I know a bit about how they work, and this one is very erratic. Sometimes it runs, and it's fun to see the parts moving. Often it stops part way through. Instead of chiming when the time is up, the chime spring goes SPROING and pops out of place. Clock springs are under a lot of strain when they're wound up, and I don't think even the best plywood is suitable for constraining them.Seriously though, your cell phone has a better timer, and it's always there in your pocket. I can't see using this one for actually timing something important. All in all, I can't say I regret buying and making this. Just know that it is what it is.

Warped boards
I got this as a gift for my wife. She loves puzzles and I thought this would be a great gift. She really liked it and enjoyed putting it together. The reason for the four star rating is because the quality of the parts was poor. Two of the boards (parts boards) were warped (bent). This is disappointing because it means the alarm clock doesn't work because some of the part's do not line-up correctly. So while the puzzle part of the gift was a success the quality of the parts was disappointing.

Good quality product
Good quality product that fits well as a gift for 10-13 years old. I bought it last year and I bought another one as a gift and don't regret it. The instructions are clear, the parts are well fitted together. Would recommend it.
