Convenient but You Could DIY If You Want!
These diaper bags are great for the Genie! Honestly, you could save some money by just using regular gallon bags and putting them inside the Genie, but these make things so much easier and faster. They work really well, hold a lot, and keep everything contained. Sometimes the smell does come through, but I just have very a sensitive nose!

The Diaper Genie bags and pail are great and I love them
Ok, I don't know why people are saying these are too expensive. They don't cost $7-$11 a bag!! If you buy three of these refills, currently at $18.99, each refill cost $6.33. If you get four bags out of each refill it cost $1.58 for each of the four sections of a refill. The refill (four bags out of one refill) holds 120 total of my 14 month old baby's diapers(using the method below). That's $0.05 cents a diaper. Even at 10 diapers a day, (which is high), is only $0.50 per day. The way I do this is that I fill the pail as much as possible. Then I open the pail and pull the diapers and bag out of the pail but don't cut the bag yet. I hold the bag closed just above the last diapers and shake them around to get them to settle in the bottom of the bag. Then I squish them down using my hands first and then my knee until i have gotten to the point that the bag might break or I just can't push down any more. repeat this process as long as you get results. (You will need to let the air out of the bag during this process by opening and closing your hand and it will be stinky but only for a couple minutes.) Then i cut the bag with scissors, leaving a hand width b/w diapers and where I am cutting the bag so I can tie the used bag off. I throw the used diapers and bag away in the dumpster. I then retie the bag left in the pail place it back in the pail and close the lid. This is how I get the most out of my diaper pail and I haven't actually had a bag burst open during the process. The Diaper Genie bags and pail are great and I love them. The cost is worth keeping the diapers out of my kitchen trash and I have on occasion smelled them in the hall area where I keep them but have learned to change the carbon filter when I do. I love this product and would recommend it.

Keeps the Stink Away!
I am a bit of a minimalist -- I don't like to buy things that are going to take up space in my house. The diaper genie was one of those items I claimed I didn't need. My mother in law-- love her dearly -- doesn't always listen to my wishes, and bought not one, but TWO diaper genies for my 800 square foot house. I was not happy. That is-- until I put that first poopy diaper in it. I was hooked. The diaper genie hold that baby poop stink in better than I can express. I was shocked at how well it worked. The refills are super easy to place into the diaper genie and the smell continues to never be an issue. My husband only empties it once a week and let me tell you, we now have two toddlers (neither are potty trained yet) that is a TON of poopy diapers. Especially since my kids tend to fill their diapers at least 2-3 times a day (we eat a lot of fruit lol). If you do a little math you will figure out that I am talking about 28 poopy diapers (and what feels like a million pee diapers) somehow fit in those two diaper genies and the stench never leaves them! We are delighted with it. I have since apologized to my mother in law for being wrong. She was so right in getting us those diaper genies. I only use the legit brand name refill bags because I honestly feel like they hold the smell better than the off-brand types.

A little pricey, but they work really well with the Genie - worth the cost, we think
As you might be able to tell from our other reviews, we are big fans of the Diaper Genie. It's one of the few "must-have" gadgets that is, in our eyes, a "must-have" for a baby's nursery. Do I wish these refills were less expensive? Absolutely. But do they work? Absolutely. I've read the online tutorials on how to make other bags work with the Diaper Genie, but we've never found anything that works as good as the ones made for it. And considering that the Genie really does reduce diaper smells, and really is easy to use, we're willing to spend the extra $ to use the bags designed for it. By the way, you can almost always get these through Subscribe and Save/Amazon Mom, and that makes them a little less pricey. We also learned, the hard way, that you never want to run out of these. (Good news is, they stack nicely, so they're easy to store.) In particularly rough times, we've gone through a refill a week, but usually, we can stretch it out a little longer than that. For us, it's worth the cost to get the refills designed for the Genie. It's not the most fun baby purchase we make every month, but it's one of the most appreciated and useful--second to diapers!

Actual count; 18ct × 3 (18 bags per refill cartridge)
These work great. We've used Diaper Genie for diaper disposal in the past. Currently we care for an elderly parent and now use the D. Genie for disposal of adult incontinence underwear. ***NOTE*** the Amazon description says 270 count, which is misleading; the refill cartridge labels show a graphic of a diaper with the number 270. That is to indicate the capacity, or estimated number of DIAPERS, that can be BAGGED/DISPOSED of until a new CARTRIDGE is needed, it is NOT the per cartridge bag count. The capacity for disposal of adult incontinence underwear is significantly less, but it does do the job. There are 18 "bags" per refill cartridge, for a total of 54 if you order the 3 pack. Took off a star for the description.
