Great, Easy to Access Information
I earned my master's degree in education in 2001. There's been a lot that's happened in the world of education since then. This book will get you up to speed on a lot of educational theories about how children learn quickly. It's well-written and easy to understand. There's helpful surveys you can take yourself as the teacher and give your students. I love the quick and easy to access lists. My favorite chapter is on the process of how children learn (inputs, memory, outputs). I ordered several books about learning styles and struggling learners, but this one is better than most. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a resource with information about learning styles, multiple intelligences, right/left-brain research, and emotional intelligence, then this is a great book to pick up!

A Great Resource!!
Diane Connell's "Brain-Based Strategies To Reach Every Learner" is a great resource for teachers AND parents! As a primary school teacher for 20 years, and now currently working as a consultant in schools with parents, students and teachers on how to switch students on to learn in a way that makes sense to them, I can highly recommend this book. Crammed full of really useful information - and presented in a style that makes sense - you don't have to be a teacher to understand the message that we all learn in different ways... and that learning can be fun!For teachers there are so many great tips and ideas which can be easily implemented in the classroom and for parents who want to find out what makes their child 'tick', this book is a real revelation. A top read - well done Diane!

Great informations for teachers to think about
This is actually the second time buying this book. I lent the first one to a colleague that didn't return it to me and can't find it now. I consult with the teaching staff at my school and I believe this book offers great insight into one's teaching style and how it may or may not make a difference for students.

So informative
This was easy to read and was so informative. I took it to bed with me in the evening and read it for an hour or so each night before I slept. I took it with me and read it whenever I got the chance. I feel that learning about how mulitiple intelligences work will really enhance my teaching.

A good resource for teachers
"Brain Based Strategies to Reach Every Learner" by Diane Connell, Ed.D. is a worthwhile resource for teachers who want an overview of the principles of some important psychological theories and how they apply to lesson plans in the classroom. For example, the book offers strategies for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners and the importance of using lesson plans that reach each type of student. Other ideas include memory strategies. Often children may be asked to simply memorize information (e.g. the 50 states), but may have difficulty simply memorizing or may forget the information after a short time. The book offers some excellent ideas (based on memory research) to help a child to put information into long-term memory from working memory. Other topics include Gardner's nine factor theory of intelligence. Once again, it describes Gardner's theory (which is an excellent one by the way), and offers suggestions in the classroom to reach kids with various strengths (e.g. musical intelligence) which are not consistently measured in traditional school curriculums on a consistent basis. The book begins with basic brain anatomy and discussion of left and right brained learners. The reader will probably find some new ideas to apply to lesson plans and in using these ideas may be able to reach more nontraditional learners.

A great resource for teachers and lay-people alike
Dr. Connell's book "Brain-Based Strategies to Reach Every Learner," is useful not only to teachers, but also to almost all of us in certain respects. We are all teachers of a sort. Whether you are a parent, a partner, a friend, a lawyer, a nurse or even a salesman, effective teaching and learning is essential to your well-being. Dr. Connell's "The Spiral `Who Am I?' Path" reminds us that our continual journeys through life are enriched through constant questioning, learning and reflection. Her discussion of basic brain neurology is easy to understand for teachers and lay-people alike, complete with clear diagrams, informative descriptions and enlightening analogies. She demonstrates how brain functioning relates to teaching and learning directly and in a way that I could understand. She also demonstrates how to maintain a healthy brain and what factors can contribute to the deterioration of an otherwise healthy brain. Her discourse on left/right brained people, multiple intelligences and learning styles helped me understand more of how I learn and process information best. I can easily see how the application of these tests to teachers and students alike could advance our educational system in a very real way, so long as the results yielded from them were put into practice as Dr. Connell prescribes.Lastly, her reflections on the emotional brain both draw attention to a vastly neglected (yet very important!) part of our being as well as make sense on an intuitive level. Dr. Connell's book is well executed in its layout, thoughtful and reflective in its discussions, practical in its applications and profound in its possibilities. The only question I have for Dr. Connell is when her next book/second edition will come out?
