Don't buy it expecting great sound quality
Works as good as if not better in most respects than the 4th generation and comes with a matching color power cord. Sound quality and volume are better on the 4th gen and there are a few added features on the 4th that I find do make it better (I like the power saving) but nevertheless I don't find either one to be good as stand-alone music speakers. At best if you pair them it's not so bad. The midrange and bass are poor and even the treble is not great, a little muffled. Adjusting the mids and bass using the Alexa app helps a little but the more you add the more distorted it sounds and you get a blown speaker effect at higher volumes. I'm rating this 2 stars for sound based on the full price for them. I think these are really meant music-wise more for adding a layer of sound paired with better speakers like the Echo or the Studio devices or plugged via the auxiliary output or Bluetooth into good speakers or a receiver but if you use them more for podcasts or music without much bass or midrange it's a fair price at the sale price of $24.99 or the even better package deal with the smart bulb (which as it turns out doesn't work when you unplug your Dot even using the Alexa app but that's another review).

Alexa is great. The included lightbulb could be better
I decided to purchase an echo when I saw they were on sale. Upon clicking, I was presented with an option to receive a smart bulb along with the Alexa. I had never tried one so I opted for this option to see how things work. I do already have a few smart plugs from TP-Link so I was kind of excited. Well, the bulb came first. It was delivered fast. The echo, however was backordered or delayed... which I was ok with. My only upset was that I could not use the Bluetooth bulb without the echo as I do not have a hub or other bulbs. So I had to wait to use it. After receiving the echo, I followed the instructions for the bulb and it works as expected. Just make sure you have it in the vicinity of the echo as it connects directly to it. It is bluetoothed to the echo so I have to use the Alexa app to control it. Unlike my WIFI plugs which I can control with the plugs app, Google, Alexa. And FYI the bulb is just plan white. It does not change color.

Caused my iPhone 12 to overheat
The alexa app caused my iPhone 12 Pro to overhead and die while trying to setup Alexa. Amazon does not care, and makes it impossible to report the issue.I will find out if I need to sue them to get my iPhone replaced.I had the phone for months, with lots of other apps, with no issue. I suspect Amazon will dodge this issue like all these big companies do.Just be cautious going forward and be careful what you want Alexa dot's to do.

Pretty satisfied
Both the alexa and light bulbs are awesome. Was a little disappointed that this alexa won't link up with my older one. I should have read that. I knew the newest one didn't connect to either so I thought the first generation would connect with the second. I was wrong. Still love it though it sounds good and connects to my smart bulbs with ease.

Not to be used for a speaker.
I got one for a reminder and because Siri sux. It's great for asking questions, unless it's something really important that they don't want you to know like, "Alexa how many people have died of the Delta Variant?" LOL, not really funny though... But it's great to ask questions, set up reminders, set timers, I was so impressed I bought another one for upstairs. Most used feature: "Alexa relax my dog" Most annoying: When it goes through it's schpeel (spiel) before telling you what you want to know. You can turn that off, too. ALSO, if you want, you can turn off your "sidewalk" thing to not share your internet with someone on the street walking by. I don't worry about it because I have a farm, but turned it off just in case.I read the reviews between the 4 & 3 and the 4 didn't have good speakers like the 3 did, so I got the Alexa 3. I'm not impressed by the speakers though. I'd rather use my own.But for reminders and all that, it's great! Having two of these, I haven't noticed a dip in the internet either, and my internet is horrible, like Barney & Fred in a modem. (less than 3 mbps!)

Great when it works.
I ordered two of these 3rd gen dots. One of them worked, one of them did not and ended up in the trash. It wouldn't connect to the servers, and I thought I was going crazy and that something was wrong with my router setup or some other random issue I couldn't figure out, but then the second one came and connected perfectly fine immediately. So yeah. Maybe quality control is an issue I'm not sure but overall the one that I have which works is great. Good volume, speaker is decent, hears and understands me fine, and controls a bunch of my random smart home stuff.

Alexa and Echo are great!
I love my Echo so much I have bought 4 of them for friends and family. Be sure to set up your multiple news Flash briefings and to play games like common knowledge and the national geographic bee. I don't know how the light bulb worked I don't believe my brother said it up.

Worth it.
My life is now partially automated thanks to alexa. People will try to scare you out of buying one of these devices by saying things like, "she is always listening" or "she collects data on you" ...uh... DUH! That is how she does her job. If she wasn't listening, how would she understand your commands?! If she didn't collect data, how would she know you left a light on and has informed you?! Yeah I want her listening and collecting because she would be a paper weight otherwise. This is literally the most helpful piece of tech I have ever bought. OH! If you don't want her to listen and collect data, there is a button to turn the microphone off and on. It's like you're in control or something, huh?
