Amazing little grill. We uese it at lease one a week.
This thing is a masterpiece of design. I want to buy one for everyone I know. The ignition gel is available at Walmart with the outdoor camping stuff, made by Sterno. Squirt some of the gel into the little tray, the directions say 20 grams, just once around the little grove in the tray. Put seven to ten briquettes in the other cup. Light the gel, place the cup with the charcoal on, and turn up the fan. The gel smokes for a few minutes, I do this outside. In about three minutes (by the time I get back with my beverage of choice) the charcoal is hot and the smoke nearly stops. Then I carry the grill to the dinning table inside, located in front of the patio doors... plenty of ventilation. There are handles for holding it, the handles never get hot. From that point on you have super hot cooking and the nice smoke from whatever you are cooking. The heat lasts about 30 minutes. We have cooked beef, chicken and fish, and vegetables and mushrooms... everything is grilled to perfection right in front of you... in minutes. It looks expensive but the time you save will pay the price tag. Spend your time with your friends and family. The grill surface is 11 inches across and the super hot section is about 5 inches across... so you can serve up to four people, no more. To serve more people I plan to buy more round tables... and more Homping grills.May 18 Update: I plan to price shop for the next one, I see the price has come down considerably from some sellers, but it has to be this exact make and model.May 20 Update: This grill has not come down in price. Some sellers list it for $81, with $121 for shipping. This is a $200 grill, and it's worth every penny of $200. I bought the same one for the same price and sent it to my dad for his 84th birthday. The gel is Sterno 20216 All-Weather Instant Flame Gel Fire Starter

Fan dies quickly and makes the grill useless
Bought this grill in September 2016. Worked great until about a week ago. Great for cooking steaks, chicken, pork etc. Fits enough on the grill for 1 - 2 people. Maybe 3 if depending on the cut of meat you have. If you have to cook for more than that, then you may want to get the larger grill. The center of the grill obviously sears meat better than the edges because that's where all the coals are and that's where the majority of the heat comes from.Very economical and only uses a fraction of the amount of coals compared to a traditional grill. However like i said, about a week ago i tried to grill some steaks and found that the fan's functionality stopped working. I tried cooking the meat without using the fan, but it just doesn't work. The fan is essential with keeping the coals red hot and the flame's heat dispersed as evenly as possible across the grill.I have contacted Homping to see if i can get it warrantied and will update this review when and IF they do anything about the issue.UPDATE: 03/01/2017Homping has ignored my 3 of my requests. I know they received my request because they assigned it to a specific department. Dept 73. However it's sat there for weeks and not only did they not bother to contact me, but they don't respond to my inquiries either. The grill does not work at all unless the fan works as the grill does not have proper vent holes designed into the body like normal grills do to allow the coals to breath.I would not recommend anyone purchasing this product. You are better off buying a portable weber grill. $200 down the drain.

Wanted to go GAGA over this...
It was OK - will I use it again? Yes. Will I use it as often as I originally though? Probably not.You cannot use it indoors as originally advertised. It does use few charcoals, but fire does not last long as eluded. Takes a while to heat up & found it difficult to light up charcoals with the lighter gel as directed for use. I end up soaking a cotton ball with fluid and light them up that way.The results were tasty however, I just anticipated more heat.I'd recommend it to someone after they tried mine to see if they like. Price point should be about $50 less in my opinion.

A Homping Good Time
The curved grilling surface makes it hard to grill anything that can roll around: Pearl onions - nope. Baby carrots - questionable. Clams in the shell - a comedy of errors. But beyond that quibble, this thing is a lot of fun.It gets plenty hot and stays hot for a surprisingly long time with the help of the little internal fan, and the cooking area is enough for one or two people, or more if you take turns. It's non-stick so the char tends to stay on the food items instead of being left behind on the grate, and you know how sad it is when that happens. It's also sad that they won't let you buy the napalm that's recommended for lighting it here in the U.S. (the company calls it "ignition gel") but getting it going with traditional wood charcoal is easy if you start with 2 or 3 briquettes of the stuff that comes with lighter fluid already soaked into it; once that's started to ash over you can add the good stuff on top and all the nasty stuff will have burned off by the time you're ready to start cooking. All of the removable parts can go in the dishwasher, which works out great. The metal tool that's included makes it easy to lift the grate off and the charcoal holder as well so you don't have to improvise how to dismantle the hot parts when you're done. With the fan running it is practically smokeless, unless you add hickory chips. It might seem obvious in hindsight, but if less smoke is important to you, best not to add hickory chips. Now, it's true that you could buy 10 old fashioned hibachis for what this costs, but since it uses only about a quarter the charcoal a conventional hibachi would, it pays for itself in just 147 uses!Nevertheless, a very nice product. Good build quality, thoughtful design, does what it claims. If you want a very small grill or a very portable grill you will not be disappointed in the Homping Grill.
