An excellent laptop at a very reasonable price.
My wife needed a laptop for a committee she chairs, and after trying - and returning - a chrome book, this was her second choice. She absolutely adores it, and after examining and using it myself I have to say that there are several really good things about this computer which costs less than some of the chrome books and does more. First the display is extremely clear and crisp. (I admit that I'm spoiled by a 2560x1600 LED display which is better. HOWEVER this laptop's display is almost as clear in a much smaller size - plus this laptop cost less than my led monitor). Second it is a computer and has far more extensive capabilities than the chrome book - and it has a hard drive which gives far more local storage. And in addition it also uses a 128GB micro sd card (in a standard adapter) and ends up with enough storage for more documents, etc., than she is ever likely to need for her committee. On top of that it runs both LibreOffice and MS Office without a whimper, and can handle a variety of networking connections both through built-in wifi and bluetooth, and with simple usb3 adapters can connect to our local ATM network (2.5Gb/s) with no problems as well. The built-in CD/DVD rom drive is excellent, and it also connects to external disk arrays (and if needed, USB floppy drives) through a USB port and handles them flawlessly. We've used HP for years and while this laptop is far from top of the line, it has a good selection of features AND it performs without a whimper. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family was well as co-workers, and I would gladly buy it for my wife again.

Nice computer for basic tasks. Good value for the price.
Has very good speed, functionality, and layout for a basic laptop computer - perfect for e-mail, Web surfing, and running programs like MS Office and MS Streets and Trips, Once I got used to the layout and functionality of Windows 10, general setup and loading software was a breeze. Minor complaints with computer is that status lights (charge, connectivity) are not located on front beneath keyboard like other laptops I've owned, but are on sides where not immediately visible, and that the on/off button does not have power on light (because of the minor lag in starting up, an indication the machine is actually 'on' would be useful). Biggest complaint with Windows 10 (so far) is that you now need to right click on mouse to pull up "Start" menu - totally opposite other computers I currently use.

Great Laptop
This is a great computer. Don’t expect cutting-edge technology for this price, but if you’re a student or a writer, this computer is more than sufficient. I’m a writer and freelance photographer who was looking for a good laptop to replace my old Compaq Presario. I did not want to spend a lot of money on a laptop, and I when I came across this one I decided to take a chance. I ran it through some tests as soon as it arrived, and I quickly realized that the 4GB of RAM that it comes with was not enough to efficiently and smoothly run photo-editing software. I had to order some more RAM to ensure that the laptop would be able to run Photoshop Elements and the photo-editing software that comes with Canon DSLRs. I just want to mention that contrary to what a lot of people have said online, this particular laptop can take up to 16GB of RAM, not only 8GB like many people have claimed. I have two 8GB sticks of RAM running side by side and the OS reads both of them. It’s only been a few weeks since I’ve been using this laptop to write papers and stories, surf the internet, edit photographs, and look at YouTube and Netflix. I have not had any issues, and I’m glad I made the purchase. If you’re on a serious budget like I am and are looking for a good laptop, I recommend getting this one. Just keep in mind that if you’re going to be using it to edit photographs, you will want to upgrade the RAM.

I wish I could have given it 4 1/2 stars -- not quite perfect, but close
I'm not a tech geek, and when my old laptop finally died (after 8 yrs), I needed a replacement. I wish I could have given it 4 1/2 stars -- not quite perfect, but close. THE GOOD: The price was great and free shipping was a consideration. Even though the HP replaced a 17" laptop, the screen is clear and bright. Very 'plug & play', and I had it up and running within minutes. I did take some extra time to get rid of all the bloat on Win10, and it runs like a charm. So far, I'm running several genealogy-related programs, LibreOffice, and my printer/scanner with no problems. I am very happy with the weight and slim design -- that was one of my main criteria, as I use it extensively during trips. It has picked up a variety of Wi-fi signals easily. Video and audio are fine for what I use it for -- I don't game or do any thing like that, so I can't speak to those capabilities (or lack there of). I'm still getting used to the 'compressed' keyboard size, and it would have been nice to have it back-lit, but I knew that it wasn't going in, so it's really not a "bad", just something to note. THE BAD: The 'delete' key is a little bitty one in a stupid place (top row, between the 'prt sc' and 'home key') that's hard to find; there's no indicator light for the 'num lock' so you never know if the number key pad is activated or not; and the indicator light on the 'caps lock' is so small and dim as to be worthless. Sometimes the key-strokes show up slightly behind my typing speed on the screen, but not enough to cause a problem. I'm still trying to get used to using WIN10 and finding how it works -- I was using Vista on the old laptop, so the learning curve has been a little steep, but not terrible. I had to get a new wireless mouse -- my old one wouldn't work on W10, but it was a seamless addition. Battery power is decent -- so far I've used it for as long as 4+ hours and still had about 1/4 left in reserve. It runs cool, but the fan is a little noisy -- not enough to be distracting, but loud enough to know it's running. I've not Skyped, so I can't report on that. For what I needed, the HP Pavilion 15 is great and I'm happy with my choice. I recommend it for anyone looking for a light, easily transported laptop for general use.
