One of the most important books I have read
Sadly this book will probably not be read by those most valuable of people who need it most... That said it is one of the most important books I have read.Let me say from the start I am probably not the targeted demographic this book was written for. I am male in my 60's and grew up in a world where you were told or expected to "harden up" and get on with it.That said I was inspired to buy and read this book, because of a video Jazz Thornton had up loaded online... About the value of a bottle of water and how it's worth was different depending on its environment. It was such a clever, thoughtful video I need to know more... This book is the journey of Jazz, from a young girl to the adult, from self halm to suicide attempts. it is blunt and confronting, looking at the importance of the heroes in our lives and how in the end we have to become our own hero.I satup all night and read this book from cover to cover non-stop save for the odd coffee break. (Not recommend)I am happy to recommend this book and the Author. You can follow Jazz Thornton online..

Raw, emotional read that is best not to binge read
I really struggled on what to rate this book. It is such an important story told by an incredibly strong woman. I am happy she wrote this book to put into words what so many who struggle with mental illness can't. I will recommend this book to others who need help during their mental health journey or those who are struggling to understand someone who is going through a difficult time. My personal battle with mental health may look different than this, but it shines a light on mental health in an uplifting way. My issue with the book was how repetitive it was. She told the same stories multiple times and it felt redundant. As a reader I felt the book was too long. I know this book isn't about perfect writing, so I tried to not let it bother me but at times it did. I also will say that I read this book in one day. Probably not the best choice in books to binge read in a day. This is a book you want to take your time with. If you do, you may not experience the same frustration I did with the repetition.

Beautiful and Inspiring Read
I found this book to be an incredible read. At first, to be honest I was little bit nervous as I was concerned about the content in that it could be triggering, but it wasn't. Instead, it was full of hope. 'Stop Surviving Start Fighting' is a book that I cannot recommend enough. Whether you are someone who has mental health issues, knows someone who struggles, a mental health professional, or really anyone wanting to know more about mental health, it's definitely worth reading. This book details the life of Jazz Thornton who has struggled with depression and has survived 14 suicide attempts. She's been there. She's gone through all this and has come out the other side, now speaking words of hope to others who may be struggling like she did. I think this is very important to note if you're looking for something that may help you. Not only this, but Jazz lists some of the techniques and coping mechanisms she used to free herself of depression. They're techniques that she has tried and used to be where she is now: a director, author, speaker and advocate. It's a beautiful book. Mental health and related issues are so important. This book describes how words and actions aren't just that; good or bad, they can have major impacts. It helps to show that even having a shred of hope can make all the difference.

inspiring and hope giving.
Really good book. While I doing relate to the suicide part, I can to pretty much everything else & to see that someone has not only come out of their darkness & into their light & also shining it for others is truely special. Well done Jazz. You’re amazing. Keep spreading the hope & love xox

Powerful
Jazz brilliantly and bravely tells her story and gives us the gift of breaking down the beliefs and thoughts that she had to overcome because of her traumas. Even though my story is different, her process helped me see and learn so much about how to continue on my own journey of empowerment and wholeness.

Powerful, Emotional & Raw
This is a strong & powerful book. It reveals the thoughts, feelings, and paradigms of those navigating the tricky world of suicide. It projects a novel look into this taboo subject that is both tender and yet visceral.I would recommend those who have loved ones dealing with these issues to read this book. It will open the inner workings of why and how you can help.Great book.

Person first language....
So this would have been at least a four, except for the part where the author seems to be advocating for person first language when it comes to mental health disabilities. I cannot separate my depression from myself. I cannot separate my anxiety from myself. Those things are with me every day and they shape who I am. Just like my physical disabilities. That's why most of us in the disability community much prefer identity first language. Disability is not a bad word.

****HIGHLY RECOMMEND****
Jazz takes you on a heartfelt journey through her troubled childhood talking openly about her battle with mental illness and struggles to overcome suicidal tendencies. This is a story of HOPE and optimism in the face of enormous adversity and will surely become a guiding light for other teenagers fighting the same fight.
