The Dot

When I read this for the first time, it was so heartwarming, I decided to buy it for my sisters who had kids. Now I buy it every time I go to a baby shower. Instead of a card that they’re going to eventually throw away, I give them a book that’s going to teach their children a valuable lesson in self-acceptance and the power of encouragement. It’s such a sweet story. Highly recommend. And while this book may be cute for little kids and easy for them to understand, I also enjoy reading it as a 27 year old. I don’t get tired of reading it to my nieces and nephews. And it really impacted me the first time I read it.

Every once in a while you come across a book that makes you wonder how it's even possible. This is one of those books. This book is only 28 pages. It has very simple illustrations, and there isn't a lot of dialogue. Somehow, within these pages, the author manages to reveal a beautiful, heartwarming message. Parents will be amazed by the message and children will be encouraged, and filled with positive feelings. The illustrations are simple as I said, but they have their own special style and they compliment the story very well. They are subtle, but somehow also make a deep impact on the reader. This is a wonderful book to encourage any child to venture into any endeavor. I'm fascinated by this book. Highly recommended.

Fun book!

This is the best book ever. Every teacher and parent and grandparent should read. Kids are kids just a short time. We need to help them grow up loving life and it’s wonders.

This is a second copy for our family. We had one before, and it was so well-loved that it fell apart completely. The story line is very simple, but poignant. A great diving board for a discussion with your kids on how their one small mark can make a huge impact on someone else's life. Purchased an extra as a gift for my child's first grade classroom. HIGHLY recommend this book!

I have to say hands down, this is one of the best books I own. I read this book and through it was amazing. This book is all about mistakes. Not only that, it leads to greater and deeper discussions. For example when I first opened this book for a group of kids to the torn paper, I asked them what they through and what they would do. The response was amazing. Of course it was only the first page so as the book went on, they reaction got stronger and the kids started to answer on a deeper level. I also showed this to an adult. Okay it was a few adults but this book has lead to many philosophical discussions. I have to say I like this book so much, I showed it to many educators and ordered ti for a few of them as well. This book is amazing. The pictures are nice and it is all about beautifying a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes but the questions is what we do with our mistakes. For a child, seeing an alligator from a torn piece of paper is simple and easy for them to understand. An adult on the other hand might see a coffee spill as an expression of the mind. I know this book is for kids up to the age of seven, but like I mentioned previously, I read it to kids ages 1 and a half to adults over forty. Mind you I only had this book for less then a month and the response is amazing. Sorry for the long review but when I feel really passionate about something I get carried away. Bottom line, if you are going to read this book from beginning to end as just a picture book then that is all you will see but if you start thinking and talking, this book is so much more. I just love this book.

Libro emozionante e motivante, semplice ma molto profondo, adatto ad ogni età. La storia racconta di una bambina che crede di non sapere disegnare, alla quale la maestra chiede semplicemente di disegnare un punto, cosa che lei affronta come una sfida. Quando poi la maestra, dopo averle chiesto di firmarlo, appende il suo disegno in classe, incorniciato in una bella cornice d'oro, la bimba riesce a vedere il disegno con altri occhi e a prenderci gusto, tant'è che inizia a dipingere punti sempre più grandi e diversi, di ogni dimensione e colore, che vengono poi esposti in una sua "personale". Questo libro insegna che gli sforzi devono sempre essere apprezzati e onorati, e che bisogna spingersi oltre le convenzioni. Inoltre, grazie al successo ottenuto, la protagonista si scoprirà curiosa e volenterosa nel sostenere gli altri a risvegliare lo spirito creativo innato in ognuno di noi. Le illustrazioni ad acquarello e inchiostro sono molto simpatiche ed essenziali. In alcune pagine le parole si perdono nel bianco del foglio, ma credo che l'effetto fosse voluto dall'autore, per rafforzare il messaggio forte e significativo. Da non perdere.

Great story

"Inténtalo" es una lección tan simple y muchas veces tan complicada de aplicar. Da igual que no seas el mejor o que directamente seas malo, si no lo intentas nunca mejorarás en nada. Bravo por esta magnífica historia.

I am a primary school teacher, who planned and delivered a school holiday summer reading club online for young readers. The Dot was my first pick for a session, knowing it was age-appropriate, accessible and has lovely illustrations. It is a great text that gives children a familiar school-based situation about a little girl who thinks she can’t do something. It teaches young readers about the power of perseverance and giving things a go i.e. make a mark and see where it takes you!

Liebevolles und mutmachendes Buch für Kinder aber auch für Eltern. Es ist toll gelten zu lassen, wie ein Kind in in die Welt blickt, so aufzubauen, den Schaffensprozess gelten zu lassen, erstmal das Ziel in der Arbeit mit der Muse nicht die Muse zu verschrecken. Niedlich und herzerwärmend schön! Ich habe das Buch gekauft und prompt nachgeschaut, ob ich meine ersten Bilder mit Namen versehen habe. Hatte ich nicht. Also habe ich es nachgeholt. Eine bereichernde Botschaft für jung und alt. Auch als Geburtstagskarte zum Start eines Projektes passend!
