Great Bow for Beginners, Women or Children!
I am not a bow expert in any way shape or form, and I really mean that, so lets get that established before this review starts. Prior to purchasing this Samick Sage takedown recurve bow, the last time I shot a bow and arrow, let alone even held one, was all the way back in my school days. And that was a few moons ago (notice the grandpa title in my name). That being said, I think this is a great beginners bow, or one for the ladies or even the kids. I purchased this being a small framed male under 150 lbs in weight to use and for my wife who is smaller than myself. The size, pull length and weight of the bow is just right for my size (5'8") and weight (150 lbs) and for the wife (5'6", do you really think I will put her weight up?). I have not had a chance to shot it for lengths of time at targets or at an archery course. But I have shot a few dozen arrows from the bow off the back deck. And I can say she performs well and shoots straight each time. Even at over 50 yards the bow can make a practice arrow stick in the side of our back yard shed. So even though the bow is only 35 pounds in pull strength, she does give a powerful shot. Now to the quality of the bow. The maple center of the bow is very nice, good quality and has a nice smooth finish to it. The black arms really compliment the maple center and gives it an expensive yet classy look. It took me a while to figure out how to string the bow, for as I said I am in no way a bow or arrow expert. But thanks to a few videos on YT I was able to get her stringed with the bow string that came included. The bow also has room to add all the gear one normally finds on a bow such as sights or what not. Items and parts that I am still studying and trying to figure out if I need or not for the level of shooting I plan on doing. If you are new to shooting a bow and arrow, or a small framed male, or a woman or a child. I would recommend this Samick Sage takedown recurve bow to you. I am very pleased that I purchased this bow over many others that I saw. I did shop around before purchasing this Samick Sagew recurve bow, and even made the mistake of buying a "hand made" one from China first (what a nightmare that was). So after shopping around, price comparing, review comparisons, and all that good stuff. I picked the Samick Sage recurve bow over the others and I am happy that I did. I hope to see many years of shooting fun for the wife and I with this bow. I'm new to archery and I love it!
I'm very new to archery, with this being my first bow. I've yet to shoot it as my arrows haven't arrived. And I'll update when they do, But I have been practicing with it for a few days. And it's awesome. Before I get to the review, I'd like to give some quick info to those considering getting into archery with this bow. -Handedness with a bow means the hand that draws the string back, ex. a right hand bow will be drawn with the right hand. Do some careful research into which handedness to choose, there is more to consider than just your dominant hand. -In order to get started, you'll need a couple more pieces of gear to go along with this bow: 1. A bow stringer is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I use the Selway Limbsaver Recurve Bow Stringer and it works well for me. 2. Arrows, unless you have some already. You can shoot with this basic gear, or you can get more. The more research you put into starting archery the better prepared, confident, and happy you'll be to make and enjoy your purchase. Now the review: The bow arrives in three main pieces, along with a string, a knock point, and some padding. It also includes a web address where you can watch a very nice and helpful assembly and first shot tutorial video for this bow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LvOaLS5zBk The three main pieces are the Riser- where the hand goes, and the top and bottom limbs. Attaching the limbs is VERY easy, just two knobs you unscrew from the riser and then use to screw the limbs on to the riser. And they provide a very solid connection, the limbs aren't going any where. If you bought a bow stringer, then getting the string on won't be too much of a hassle. And will become very easy in short order. Applying the knock point is fairly simple, though you will need some form of RoboGrips. Ideally you should get a pair of 'knocking pliers' but it's not necessary. Lastly, you can apply the adhesive padding. You cut it to fit on the shelf of the riser, then peel off the back and place on the shelf. This bow feels wonderful in the hand, exceptionally comfortable. The bow looks very nice as well, nicely stained wood with simple and sleek limbs. Pulling back on the string bends the limbs nicely and you can feel the power in the bow. I'm a brand new, yet to be archer, but I'm really glad that my first bow is such a well constructed and beautiful bow. I have no idea if this a good bow, by seasoned archer standards... but as a new archer, this bow has been truly awesome.

Fantastic bow overall, small issues but you definately can't beat it for the money.
I bought this bow as a Christmas present for my girlfriend, she absolutely loves it. I ordered the 40# bow and got some 30# replacement limbs so that she can work her way up to 40#. I always advise getting a lighter pound bow than you think you can handle. It's much better to learn proper form and release with a light bow and then move up in poundage, and a 40# bow is plenty to kill a deer with proper muscle placement. It is in face the minimum legal poundage in the US to hunt deer. The string could be a bit better quality (Dracon string), but at this price point you kind of expect to need to replace it with a FastFlight after a while and it comes with a nock point already set. The string is also a bit long; the recommended brace height for this bow is 7 1/2" - 8 1/2", and after 20 twists I still can't get it past 6 7/8". Any more than that is not recommended and can cause extra wear on the string and possibly cause it to snap eventually. The riser is very good quality and feels great in the hand. There were also a couple of tiny marks on it, nothing noticeable unless you're inspecting but still there. This bow has not been shot yet, but with the vast amount of reviews on this bow you know it is going to hit it's mark once you tune it properly (look on YouTube how to tune, it's very important). One thing that is not in the description is that it comes with the fuzzy/silicone arrow rest pads for the shelf on the riser. I bought some separately assuming it would need it, but they are pre-cut to fit and fairly decent. Another thing that I really like about this bow that my Martin Diablo does not do, is break down extremely easily. Two thumb bolts, two limbs, one riser and one string and you're good to go. No fumbling around with washers and allen wrenches like my bow so it makes it much more portable. All of the brass fittings for modern accessories are pretty good thread quality, and inlaid well so no worries about them coming loose. Overall this is a fantastic bow for the money, great for beginners and extremely easy to bump the power up for intermediate shooters. I would guess that Samick would not recommend this but there are a few other limb MFGS that fit this bow. Particularly OMP Explorer 2.0 which I managed to pick up for crazy cheap. So you can take the power from 25# all the way up to 60#, and still keep the same riser and feel of the bow which will add to your form and accuracy. (Take care when buying limbs from different brands, some can be warped and not fit properly and possibly explode with a full forced pull. If you're not sure what you're doing yet then I advise getting the poundage you'll shoot to start and do some online research on different limbs.) Feathered arrows are suggested for most recurves, unless you add a modern arrow rest like a whisker biscuit (like I have on my Diablo). The plastic veins tend to not be as consistent since they move the arrow on contact with the shelf. Highly, highly, highly recommend this bow for anyone who likes wood recurves and wants to get into shooting. Best beginner bow on the market in my opinion. Happy hunting!

Samick Sage-solid take down bow that performs
The Sage is a classic "first bow" for many wanting a 3-piece take down traditional bow. It came with good packaging and protection, was easy to set up, and the thumb screw style limb bolts trade off visual appeal and smooth lines for very simple set up and take down with no tools. I did upgrade my continuous loop string with a flemish twist style (both work fine - it comes down to personal choice) - but if you want a bow to take down for transport and easier storage, or the option to quickly swap draw weights in a single riser, the Samick Sage is a perfect option for those shopping the "black hunter" style of bows. With the price to performance ratio being so good, you can afford to introduce others in the family to the sport as well. I ended up with a couple of them as shown.

Good bow once we worked on it some.
my husband took me to an archery shop for my birthday and I got a bow, I unfortunately shoot left-handed and he is right, so my setup didn’t work for him and we wanted to do this together. They didn’t have a right handed setup in store at 35lbs, so I ordered this for him so we could practice together. this has all similar specs and is about the same price as mine, (I have a pse nighthawk)we did a lot of research and this is supposed to be the same quality, however definitely not as good as mine. There is no arrow knock which is easy enough to add if you want one. The wood is slightly splintered in several places, Enough to where we had to sand it down to stop getting splinters when holding it..not a huge deal and a fairly easy fix, but not some thing I think you should not have to do immediately upon buying a bow. While this is a decent price, it’s also not cheap. I did expect slightly better quality. The arrow rest broke the first time he used it, which again not a huge deal, You can buy another one and reattach it no problem. Holes are slightly off for attachments, but we got it to work. Once we worked all of the kinks out the bow shoots very well and functions wonderfully which is most important!

Longtime archer...great quality for price!
I just ordered a Samick Sage to go w my bow collection so I would have a cheap good quality portable takedown to noxk around in the woods and not worry about it getting damaged like my more expensive one piece longbows and recurves. Wow, I was quite surprised what good quality the Sage was. Great craftsmanship and beautiful wood work. I got the limbs that have “Samick Sage” printed in white, and handwritten in white ink along are the specs below it. So I guess I didn’t get a counterfeit made in China that says just “Sage”. My limbs look just like the pics in the “authentic” Sage posting. The limbs great quality no warping. It also came w a string and plastic screw in arrow rest. I’ll probably replace the arrow rest w just shelf leather or padding. But if you are new to archery use the arrow rest it comes w a few years as it makes targeting for someone new a bit easier. Everything fit together w perfect tolerance. Very very easy to assemble. I had the bow up and assembled, strung and ready to shoot in under 3 mintues first time through. There were no instructions included, but if you have ever had a takedown before is simple to figure out. No tools needed, but do recommend buying a stringer for $10 if you aren’t a very experienced archer and don’t use the step thru technique to string it. If you are new to archery there are a million videos online for how to put the Sage together. This bow shoots almost as well, I would say as well as my more expensive bows. If you are new to archery and want to get into it for a low entry point, this bow is the bow for you. Actually this is a bow you could use for a lifetime and would only need to upgrade for a prettier bow you like the looks of better. If there is a bow prettier? Happier w this purchase than I thought I would be.

Fun & Affordable Takedown
I can't say much more than: This is a great bow. I purchased both this bow with 50 to 55 pound limbs, as well as additional 25# limbs. I do have a few gripes with this bow, particularly the riser. To attach the limbs, you seat them into metal plates that are screwed into the riser. On my bow, one of the plates is slightly off center. This makes it a little harder to get the nut in to secure the limb & there is a shiny wear spot on the plate. The riser is also big. If you have smaller hands, it's more difficult to hold. The grip is well designed (it's like the grip on a target pistol) & shaped, but it really could stand to be slimmer. Could be really intimidating to first-time shooters. And if you're new to takedowns, the limbs can be confusing. They come in pairs, but only the bottom limb has 'sage' written on it. It's really easy to get confused about which limb goes where. Fortunately the limbs have big grommets on them so you can't put them on backwards. Some kind of mark would really help. Also I think that for this quality & price, the kit should include shelf pads, arrow rests, nock points, & most importantly- some instructions! On the positive side I really love shooting paper with with this bow. Right away I felt like I was shooting better. I purchased a variety of arrows, & get great results with 29" & 30" carbon arrows. For the 25# limbs, 26" arrows are too short for the draw. However, they shoot just fine with the 55# as part of training up to that draw weight. The physical weight of the riser seems to vanish over the course of the day instead of getting heavier, which I attribute to the great shape of the grip. Nock points are a must, as the curve of the shelf allows for wide range of placements. There aren't too many options out there for recurve takedowns, & it's easy to see why Samick is so common. It's a great bow for an affordable price.
