Great little device
I am not sure why people are not impressed with this device. It is simple and waterproof and self contained. I didn't even read the instructions. I pulled out the provided tinder roll. Poked it on a stick and loosened the bit of waxy cotton that snagged on the stick. Put the flint wheel against the provided tinder and struck the wheel. Second spin of the wheel it burst into flame. Burned for about 5 minutes and then I smashed it to extinguish the flame. I have used compression fire starters, flint and steel, and magnesium rods to start fires and this,by far, out performs them all. I get that it would be tough to light a tinder pile with the amount of sparks it throws but that isn't the point of this device. It has its own tinder which lights with ease. The point of this device is a small, packable, waterproof, self contained fire starting device. And it is all those things for sure. All I would say is if you get cold and tired trying some other methods, you are welcome to come rest and warm up by the fire I started in the time it took you to shave off some magnesium chips. Now the real test of this product isn't the ease of use or how well it works because that proof is there. It is if you can find refills?

like the tinder design
same idea thats been done a hundred times for the most part. what sets this one apart is the tinder. the "cotton" (?) "donuts" work by pushing a stick into the hole which will push out fibers to catch a spark and have said stick as a "handle" to get the lit tinder to where you need it under your fire lay. (as per package directions)these are much easier to get your fire where you need it to get things going, and no burnt fingers trying get a burning tinder placed pinched between your fingers.

Not Shabby
Zippo has put together a really decent, well-thought kit. The only drawback for me, was the striker mechanism appears to be the weak point - feels flimsy. This is the one area that you want things to be solid. The flint was also just a shard and it would make sense if Zippo just put a full-size flint in from the get go. I replaced included flint - all is right in the world.I also think some folks may not be following instructions. The tinder in mine ignited first or second strike reliably. Make sure you pick at it a little to fray it up. Other than that, it works like a charm - even in the rain.

This with some fat wood from wal mart works perfect.
This is a lil smaller than i thought it would be but its easily packable & carry with u camping, hiking, back packing etc.It performs as advertized but u have to remember to fray to cotton after u push ur stick through the center and one spark is all it takes to get it going. I can recommend this product as a must have. 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥

Good for emergency use
Easy fire starting, provided you follow instructions. You are supposed to pull out a good amount of the fire starter from the CENTER of the roll before striking. Works like a champ when done this way. Only 5 fires possible with the supplied tender rolls so either get more or understand you will something else fairly soon.I saw a YouTube video of this where the "reviewer" had not even read the very short and simple instructions, could not get the tightly rolled tender to start and gave a very critical review. There were a lot of very critical comments about his performance but he left it up and admitted that he was at fault. However, he did not correct his initial video. RTFM.

Great fire kit
Great fire kit. Really like the idea of being able to put it on a stick so you can get the lit end under the tinder and wood. Well made and like the ability to refill the flint with easy to find zippo flints is great. This product is very well made and engineered, I'm impressed. Way to stay relevant and innovate when people don't smoke and need the old school Zippo lighters.

Good quality all in one solution to get a fire ...
Good quality all in one solution to get a fire going under not so perfect conditions.will be in my pack, and the Bic (the best fire maker) will still be in my pocket. Not real fond of sticks and fero rods.Zippo should include a small tube with some extra flints for it.

Handy , works , reuseable , faster and better than trying to use flint
Grandson and father hunt deep in woods , handy all sealed and water proof and after you use cotton that comes with it , just put some cotton balls with lighter fluid or what ever in container
