Excellent, when used with a Sony TV
When i hooked it to my cheapie walmart tv, it was quiet and the sound quality was awful. I needed a new tv anyway, so when i hooked it too my Sony Bravia, it's excellent. SO i'll go ahead and say, if you have a Sony TV you're good to go. It might play nice with a nice quality tv.Update: I'm now running this sound system through my computer and Sony TV, it is excellent. This sound system is quite powerful for the price and is very good for a home entertainment or for your computer. Bass is powerful and the mids are nice and clear. The highs are also excellent. I expected nothing less from Sony.

Great sound in a small affordable package.
After evaluating several different machines, I felt this one met my needs. the previous CD player I had, which was a Sony, finally gave out, ( belt issue), so I knew their product performed well. As I manly listen to music in a roughly twelve by fourteen foot room, I do not have space for a larger unit, which I do have in another part of my home. This machine is very compact, main piece sits nicely on a shelf over a TV, the speakers are about the size of a soup can, and can be inconspicuously hung from a wall, I did lengthen all of the wires to have a true four corners of the room set up. Once completely installed, the system is easy to dial in with the on screen menu. At a cost with tax and shipping of one hundred fifty nine dollars, this unit in a properly sized room has excellent sound and picture quality and is a very good value.

Excellent value, flexible inputs
I was very happy with the level of performance I got in relation to the price I paid; very good value! I previously owned a $1,500 Bose home theater system and I have to say the extra performance and quality I got out of it was not 15 times worth, maybe not even double. The 5.1 system sounds great if you set it up properly to watch movies and I also modified the back inputs easily with "3.5mm Female to Dual RCA Male" cable (sold here on amazon for less than $4) so that I could plug in my mp3 player or my laptop (audio only, video should go straight to your display screen) making it a great system for parties as well!I would criticize that the cables for the two rear speakers will not be long enough to reach the back of your room unless you have a very small room or can run speaker wire direct under the carpet/flooring.Pros: price, attractive design, very decent sound quality up to a fairly loud volume (loud for 90% of people not in the 14-25 years of age demographic), accepts HDMI and RCA inputs, low profile.Cons: rear speaker wire might be a bit too short (appx. 15' each but you can buy and use your own wire)

Good price, average machine. Just fine.
Ok system...average. Works fine. No bells. No whistles. DVD player is just that...not Blu-ray. No optical audio port. Wires short... bought & spliced enough to accommodate 14 x 23 ft. room. Sound is fine, not Dolby HD crisp_sounding separation. Motel 6 of sound systems. What do you expect for the price? Serves our purpose just fine.

Take a moment to get it right.
This can get loud if you are in a small room. Calibrating this is a must, as well as placing the sub in a good location. Since the sub is small you should try moving it in different locations around the room to get the best bass from it. I know its easier to just hook it up and call it quits but it will pay off for it self and sound great if you take the time setting it up. iI am giving it 5 stars for it price and value. this was for my mother in-law as a christmas present i set it up for her, she never knew what she was missing until after she heard the difference tv vs home theater.

What a rip off. I suspect the system was ...
What a rip off. I suspect the system was defective because my HD Television (1/4 volume) is louder than this system at max volume. Only speaker that was somewhat loud was the center speaker. There was no booming, nothing.I will give it a five star for the DVD portion. It really made the DVD pop on the television.Cost over $20 to return the system and then Discounts Jungle charges a restocking fee even if the item is defective. I would not buy anything from them.

Reluctance Rewarded
After reading so many reviews all over the map on this system, I decided to go for it...the price for the features offered was too tempting. Installation and set up were quite straight forward and easy to follow. The fact that I'm not of the "digital generation" might offer some comfort to others technologically challenged. Still haven't figured out all of the functions on the remote, but I've learned enough to put it to use. The sound was much better than I expected. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this system.
