Gerber long sleeve side snap shirts are great as a layering piece, made of 100 percent cotton for comfort and softness, designed with snaps on the side for no-fuss dressing because they do not have to go over baby's head and have built-in mitten cuffs to prevent scratching, 3 pack white available in sizes newborn and 0-3 months, machine wash and dry, great item for gift giving

Necessity for bringing home a newborn.
I didn't have these for my firstborn or even know that they existed until my nephew was born a few months later and discovered what a necessity they are! My sister got them as a hospital take-away, but for me they were well worth the investment for the first couple weeks of being at home with baby.No matter whether baby is born in cold or hot weather, the lightweight cotton long sleeves are important to help keep a newborn covered up and maintain body temperature. The cuffed sleeves are great to keep baby from scratching themselves and the wrap-style closure with buttons is really helpful on a wiggly and delicate infant-- it can be nerve-wracking those first few days to pick up your baby when they're so tiny and new and fragile that even slipping their head through a onesie can be scary until you get the hand of it. The best part of these, really, is just the ease of diaper changes, which there are a million of in the first days. Coupled with a good swaddle blanket, you just might be lucky enough to change a diaper without waking up your little one!The negatives of these are that they are cut short, which is helpful if you're concerned about the umbilical stump, but I still prefer something that I don't have to keep tugging down; and also the wear-time/life-span of these-- these will really only last and be useful the first 2-3 weeks until your newborn has plumped up a bit and the umbilical stump is healed. That being said, still a worthwhile investment that helps during the chaotic first few weeks.

This is essential for your newborn. Especially since their fast growing nails are so thin and long and they tend to scratch their beautiful faces. Better than the mittens that keep falling off. The sleeves come so that you can cover their hands. These shirts are convenient to change their frequent diapers instead of having to unlatch a onesie from the bottom and then take it off over their heads. Trust me that makes a difference when its 3 am and you haven't slept and you want to change his diaper without waking him up. Another thing is when they are first born, it is recommended to not cover the umbilical cord until it falls off and heals. These shirts allow air to flow through.

Practical, useful, perfect!
When I first got these in the mail they looked so small I thought to myself "these look like premie shirts!!" But then it turned out they were the ONLY shirts that fit my baby after she was born! She was 7 pounds 14 ounces and all her newborn size clothes were too big. These shirts saved us and were so easy to use while trying to keep clear of the umbilical cord stump. I would definitely recommend this for any new moms.

My daughter was born in January and this was pretty much the only thing she wore at first
My daughter was born in January and this was pretty much the only thing she wore at first. It was great with her umbilical cord still healing. Very easy to get on and off (which is great because dressing a newborn was pretty terrifying at first). Easy to wash and dry. Took up almost no space in the hospital bag and was great for changing her diaper while she was sleepy. I have bought this as a gift for others and will buy it again with the next newborn (because honestly, I could have used more than two last time)

Runs very small
I purchased (and according to the label between the shoulder blades, received) the 0-3 month size. This is not a terrible product; however, the two I received had very inconsistent arms - one had sleeves that were significantly longer and wider than the other. Both of them were very VERY small in the wrist/mitten department. I think that if you purchased the 0-3 for a newborn you'd be set for a few weeks. I received these when my baby was three weeks old and she was only able to wear the small sleeved one for a few times and the larger sleeved one another few times. Had I had these straight out of the hospital, I think I would have gotten much more wear out of them. The side snaps are great for a new baby, it can make it easier to keep their backs covered while doing skin to skin bonding. I've also seen new parents (dads especially) love them because changing their clothing can be easier when you don't have to worry about jarring their head pulling it in and out of a onesie.

Ok but probably wouldn't buy again
Before my baby was born I really wanted side-snap t-shirts b/c I was terrified of putting onesies over his head. It was hard to find affordable ones and I didn't want to spend a ton of money b/c I knew I wouldn't be using them for too long. I ended up buying these and they fit my baby when he was teeny tiny (e.g. 5 pounds) but 1-2 weeks in they started to look tight on him even when he was definitely still in newborn clothing. I also mostly just put him in sleepers b/c having a separate shirt and pant didn't seem as practical/comfortable for him when he was so small. The material also wasn't great. I very quickly started to use these as extra cloths for cleaning up spit-up or other messes instead of their intended use. Not sure I would buy these again!

It makes it easier to dress when they're so tiny and I don't like pulling shirts over their heads yet
We always get a bunch of these side snap shirts for the newborns. It makes it easier to dress when they're so tiny and I don't like pulling shirts over their heads yet. These are great to bring to the hospital since they need to be dressed and undressed for so many checks. I prefer these to onsies until the baby's belly button stump falls off since it doesn't snag as much and you're able to cover and uncover the stump to let it dry better.

Great unisex shirt for babies with umbilical cords! Order a Size Up!!
Loved the ease of getting the shirts on and off, especially since baby still had her umbilical cord. The sleeves were a bit long, the waist was a little snug and the length of the shirt was a bit short. The sleeve length didn't bother me since I didn't have to put mittens on the baby to keep her from scratching herself, however it was annoying that the shirt would constantly ride up because it was a little snug and short. Also loved the deeper V-neck as compared to the Babies R Us brand of kimono shirts. Baby only weighed 5.5 lbs after coming home from hospital and the shirts only fit for about 3 weeks. I would recommend ordering one size up!
