An odd-ball relic of a movie
I remember seeing this soon after it had come out and thought it was great. Upon re-watching all these years later I think it's well-crafted, but it's not exactly in the upper stratosphere occupied by some of Polanski's other movies. It does manage to create a lot of suspense at the beginning, and you're eager to see where it's all going, but the reliance on a cold-war nuclear device as a plot point seems cliche now. Also, by the end, it seems like the characters are being moved around like pieces on a chessboard. It all feels a little too formulaic and doesn't have any of the universal themes that characterize Polanski's great films. But the performances are very watchable, and as usual there are some interesting secondary characters who flit in and out. Probably of interest to Polanski fans, not so much to general audiences of today.

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, EXCITING & TRULY AN EXCELLENT FILM
OUTSTANDING FILM: THIS FILM HAS SUCH AN EXCITING STORY, MUCH LIKE THE FILM, "TAKEN", THAT I HAVE SEEN IT NOW A GREAT MANY TIMES, SO IT IS PERFECT FOR PURCHASING. HOWEVER, THERE IS MUCH SUPERIOR BLU RAY VERSION AVAILABLE WITH 2 HARRISON FORD FILMS & THAT IS THE FRANTIC FILM YOU SHOULD PURCHASE, THE ONE WITH THE BLU RAY DOUBLE FEATURE FILM OF 2 HARRISON FORD FILMS.THIS FILM IS SO GOOD THAT I NEVER GET TIRED OF IT, IT IS ABOUT A DOCTOR AND HIS WIFE WHO TRAVEL TO PARIS AND THE WIFE IS KIDNAPPED BECAUSE A DRUG SMUGGLER, ALSO ON THE SAME FLIGHT FROM SF TO PARIS LOSES HIS LUGGAGE CONTAINING THE DRUGS TO THE AMERCAN DOCTOR & HIS WIFE WHEN THEY ACCIDENTALLY TAKE THE DRUGS SMUGGLER'S LUGGAGE BECAUSE IT IS IDENTICAL TO THEIR OWN LUGGAGE. SO, THE DOCTOR'S WIFE IS TAKEN OR KIDNAPPED SO THAT THE DRUG DEALERS CAN GET THEIR DRUGS BACK. THE CRIMINAL ELEMENT IS VERY VIOLENT AND REALISTIC, THE EMOTIONS DISPLAYS ARE TRUE, THE MUSIC IS INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL, THE FILM IS GORGEOUS AND THE ACTION IS SIMILAR TO "TAKEN" ABOUT ONE AMERICAN MAN FIGHTING THE WORST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET.BOTH MEN & WOMEN WILL LOVE IT. IT HAS A VERY EUROPEAN FLAVOR ABOUT IT. THE GORGEOUS ACTRESS PLAYING THE YOUNG WOMAN WHO HELPS THE HUSBAND TO GET HIS WIFE BACK IS AN INCREDIBLE ACTRESS & HER ROLE IS FABULOUSLY PORTRAYED & YOU FEEL TREMENDOUS SYMPATHY FOR HER N HER EFFORTS TO HELP. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS FILM, AND I AM SURE YOU WILL TOO, BUT BUY THE DOUBLE FEATURE BLU RAY TO GET THE BEST QUALITY FILM. YOU'LL WATCH & ENJOY THIS FILM FOR YEARS.

Decent movie to entertain you with
Man and wife go to Paris for medical convention as the man is a doctor. You see them check into the hotel. Then she disappears. He tries to find her with the help of the locals.Decent thriller and similar to Ford's other thriller from the 80s--Witness. There are but two shoot outs and that is with hand held pistols. No Arnold S or Bruce Willis action scenes here. It kinda reminds you of the 70s movies like The Conversation etc. It is slow, natural. There are not a lot of movie magic moments. People. Plot. That kinda movie. It does show you something that I think we have come to accept in the Western world . . . the changing western world with the changing immigration policies. That is subtlely commented on at the very beginning. At this point you may wonder why your time is wasted on showing the husband/wife in a cab driving from the airport to the hotel. And I think the underlying point to this movie is that Paris isn't croissants, champagne and the eiffel tower . . . the cliches. It gritty. Dirty. Mean. Paris, that is. The movie The Taken is extremely similar in plot to this movie either by accident or on purpose. And you even see abducted women on boats on the Seine where you would normally see tourists in both movies. And both movies comment on Paris real as opposed to hyped culture as well as foreign influences in modern day France. I guess someone wants to provide a counter point the French cultural ministry's propaganda. Anyway, another first in this general time frame is that Americans get to see Muslims acting like we have since known them to behave in real life.

The quintessential Krytron movie!
Stimulating and nerdy entertainment set in the 80s France. Action movie plot with European flair, centered on "the krytron", when a hollywood producer had made trade headlines for illegally traficking in the same. Great fun to watch. Young Harrison Ford with his same classic trademark style acting seen in many of his films.

A rare movie, hard to find
This is a haunting film, that stays with you long after you have watched it. Shocking, sad, enticing, captivating, and the music draws you in. Highly recommended.
