YES, this really is a region-free, dual-format player!
The seller’s description doesn’t tell you which Sony model you’ll be sent, but I got the Sony BDP-S3700. Neither the package itself (or Sony’s own website) says anything about it being region-free or dual-format (PAL and NTSC), but it really is (you can confirm that by asking an AI search). You just press one of the colored buttons on the remote to select the region and the player does the rest (see the attached instructions that were included in my box to see which other Sony models you might be sent.) I tested one of my foreign PAL Blu-ray discs and it works fine. You’ll be able to play any DVD or Blu-ray from any country!

All regions actually!
I have been looking for a player that plays All Regions… last one I got was a gift, but it did not work. I decided to get my own, of course I’m going to look into Sony. I paid $184, so worth the money, I’m actually getting to watch so many great movies and series I couldn’t play before (Game of Thrones, here I come!)😉

Disk, Disk as the band played on
So far this player has lasted more than 6 months. Others seem to fail after losts of use. This one still works well. That says a lot about a product after purchasing several others which simply did not last more than 6 months. Seems to be a good buy.

Not From Sony, but an Outstanding Product
The Amazon catalog (site) description is inaccurate. This is a Region Free player, but it is NOT from Sony. Another company has modified the drive to make it play all DVDs in Regions 0 - 8, and all Blu-Rays in Regions A, B and C. Amazon says the model is the Sony S1500RF. There is no such product from Sony. The drive is the Sony BDP S1700 player, which is NOT region free. Another company, 220-Electronics, has modified it to make it Region Free. They have a data sheet inside that explains this, with a support phone number. That said, the drive is terrific. It will play virtually any DVD or Blu-Ray. The video and audio are both outstanding. It will not play 4K titles of course, but if you need a drive to play DVDs or Blu-Rays from anywhere, you need to get this item.

I JUST REALIZED WHAT HAS BEEN SID BY OTHER CUSTOMER - BAD, BAD EXPERIENCE
I had the same situation of another customer here in these reviews. I bought this item since it is described as Multi System Region Free Blue-Ray able to play on 110-240 v. but the AC Adaptor that comes with the item it reports that is functioning on 110 v. only. I thought that it has been modified by seller as well. The player did really work for about 4 times (these are the times I used it in 5 months) and last night, when I started it again, was DEAD. I think this is a major problem since I bought it for my assignment out of the U.S. and I thought I bought a SONY RF1500RF...it is a SONY S1500 MODIFIED instead. I already brought this issue to amazon's attention. I discourage anybody to purchase this item if they want to use it in another country. What follows is amazon's description of this item and the review of the customer who had sort of my same experience. ============================================================================================ Technical Details • Built in Video PAL/NTSC Converter - Works on all TVs with HDMI Connection • Multi System - World-Wide Use - Multi Region DVD/BD Product Description Works on any TV with HDMI connection. Now, watch all your favorite DVD's in from any part of the world. BD ABC / DVD: 0123456. SONY BDP-S1500 REGION FREE BLU-RAY DISC PLAYER BUILT IN PAL/NTSC CONVERTER 100~240V 50/60HZ WORLD WIDE VOLTAGE. 1.0 out of 5 stars What you see is NOT what you get.... By PJ Ross on February 25, 2016 Verified Purchase I ordered an S1500RF that is advertised very clearly as a 110-240v unit. What I got was a BDP-S1500 with a sticker over the model number indicating it was "region free 110-240 dual voltage". The unit had an after-market "modification" with a 90 day warranty and a plug in adaptor that was clearly ONLY playable in a 110v environment. Included was a photocopied one page sheet of instructions. Given that a BDP-S1500 is normally about $85, the company distributing this thing is charging an additional $75 to unlock it. They should be advertising a "modified" BDP-S1500, NOT a S1500RF. I was planning on bringing the unit with me to Europe, but given the limitations of the plug-in adaptor, I cannot. Buyer beware.

Easy setup, played immediately for me, remote is too tiny.
I've been quite happy with this nifty little Blu-ray player, which has been a real work horse for me for five months now and counting (fingers crossed). I call it "little", because it's a good bit smaller in all dimensions than the Samsung player I inherited from my folks and used for years, until that became ailing. (That one also wouldn't play some of my Universal BDs, for some reason which I assume had to do with outdated firmware. Only Universal titles.) Happily, this plays those, plus everything else I've had occasion to throw at it, including Region Two and Region One DVDs, and Region One Blu-rays (of course). I'll be honest and admit that I haven't yet tried to play Blu-rays of other regions, however, which some of my fellow amazon customers will hope to find to be the major attraction here. So I can't comment on that. This was easy as pie to set up, with only two necessary connections, as I recall, and I am by no means a technophile. So this put me on the side of this player immediately. The only caveat I'd express as an almost completely satisfied customer is that the provided remote is both unilluminated and incredibly tiny, and thus potentially mislaid or lost all too easily. Put it consistently in the same secured space immediately after inserting your disc and setting up the options, relax on the couch, and it should be fine, though.

It does not work anymore. How can I write a review on a product which is not working?
