"Pre sat-on"
Hat seemed to be what I wanted but, for some reason it came totally bent, twisted and crushed. The box was not damaged, and there was nothing else in the box that would have caused any damage. It was a pair of tweezers, so I can only assume the hat was like it arrived when it was placed in the box. The crown is crushed, and the wire hat band looked like one of my grandma's old doilies with the edges fluted. I am going to make an observation here: it looked as though it was "roughed up" prior to being packed. No one, and I mean "no one" could have packed this item and thought to themselves, "They are going to like this". Ain't no way. I liked the style of hat etc, although it would be too heavy for much summer wear, at least to my liking.Addendum: I just got confirmation re my refund being issued. I took it to UPS 3 hrs ago. That's why I shop at places with fair refund policies. Amazon is the best in my opinion and I ain't connected to Amazon in any way at all (I only wish I was).

Great hat but both the hat and I were crushed by the packaging.
Love the hat. Great hat. Great color, great price and it fits very well. Very nice construction and holds its shape. However Amazon's inept packaging completely squashed the hat, practically ruined it, took a LOT of work with a steam iron to bring it back to near wearable shape. Very disappointed with Amazon's packaging, crushed it into a box much too shallow for it, arrived crushed and creased. Box was unscathed, hat just squashed to fit into a box much too shallow for it.

Outstanding - Functional, Stylish and Well Made
I have had this for several weeks now, and have waited on a review since I could not decide if I loved it, or really loved it. I think it is the latter.I was looking for a hat with a few qualities. I wanted something that offered good coverage, especially from the sun, stayed on my head in high wind (I do live in Kansas), wasn't terribly hot, had a pinch front, and wasn't too trendy looking (not overly hipster-ish, Indiana Jones-ish, or Aussie-ish). With this hat, I found all of that and more.Historically, I prefer Western, or Cowboy hats in felt. The bigger the brim the better since it provides more shade. But, a decent felt costs a good chunk of change, and low quality felt can get hot and just looks cheap. I have had Oilskin before and found those to be unbearably hot as they just don't seem to breathe at all. Straw is good for coolness, but sometimes you lose sun protection and I have ad more than one fly off in a stiff wind. This material is the perfect balance. It feels solid on my head and I haven't had it fly off yet. I have been wearing it the past few weeks, and temps here have been in the high 90s, and humid. I never felt like the hat was contributing, and felt it was doing a good job of wicking sweat. I wore it for a week while fly fishing and it did an excellent job of cutting glare.Another element I have been liking is that it seems fairly durable to water. I had it in the pool and took it off and let it float like a boat. Yes, it absorbed water, but slowly, and dried quickly. I would not hesitate to wear this in the rain or snow. I figure I can also use this as a quick water dish for my dog while on hikes.I was pleasantly surprised about the sun protection on this. Clothing can have a protection rating called Ultraviolet Protection Factor, or UPF. Some hats stated their UPF factor in the their description. It was nice to see when I got this that there was a tag that said the UPF was actually 50 on this hat, which is very high. I would list that in the description. The style on this is great. The brim forms easily to the shape you want, and stays there. The brim is 3 inches, a nice size for shade protections. I like to keep mine down, almost flat, with the front and back turned down. You could easily turn your sides up. Overall, the look borders on Western with a touch of safari. It has the nature of a functional, rugged hat that looks good and stylish. But, it won't be confused with a hipster fedora, or a suburban "dad hat.'Where I would improve is the size, as others have stated. I have a large head. In sizes, I wear between 7 1/2 and 7 5/8. So, this puts me solidly in the XL category. I knew this would run big, but had no idea how big. I ended up having to take a piece of thin foam (I actually use it in fly tying, so maybe 1 or 2 mm thick - not sure) and run it all around the inside sweat band, and then I added a bit more up front. If I would get this again, and I very well may pick up another color, I would try a Large. For the money - this is the best hat I have seen and I highly recommend it.

It's the perfect hat for me
I purchased several hats recently, to replace an old hiking Fedora. I had issues with all of them except this one. It's the perfect hat for me. It's breathable, but heavy. It can be molded into any style. It's light-colored so reflects the desert heat. It fits well so keeps the sweat out of my eyes. The only down-side to the hat is that it retains dried sweat appears as a salt band on the outside of the hat above the sweat band. I don't have an issue with that, thinking it provides evidence that I do the hikes, but bring it up in case others might take issue with it.

I really like the hat
Okay so first lemme say this. I really like the hat. It's nice. Keeps the sun out of my face, and isn't heavy on my head. However, if you're going to get this hat, know that it's sized larger than other products in the same market. Whatever size you wear normally, get this hat one size smaller than that, and it will fit well. Might even still be a little bit looser than you like, depending on how you like your hats to fit. I like a more snug fit, so I'll be padding the inside of the band a little bit. But that's an easy modification to make, and it doesn't make me like the hat any less.

Great hat but you gamble on the size.
Great hat but you gamble on the size. Had one of these for years until it got lost in a house fire. Stood up to a lot except heavy rain which soaked it through but here in the southwest that isn't something I worry about much. The big problem is that these Dorfmans tend to be inconsistent in sizing. The first one ordered was too small so it got returned for the next size up which was a bit loose but stayed in place. The one I just bought was ordered in that same size and it's too big. So I have to send it back or order a new one first in the next smaller size to see if it fits. If it doesn't then I have to get something else and get a refund. This is annoying. I guess quality control as far as sizing depends on who makes these for Dorfman. Of course to be fair this isn't the only hat maker with this issue.

Smart Quality Hat
A well made product just a little on the large side for my head. A problem soon fixed by a hat rim liner. The hat material is far superior to the ones I have seen of similar style in garden centres.

My Wife Said I Look Dapper
Disclosure: I hate hats! Hate them. But I've been spending much more time camping this year and with several trips this fall, I decided I finally needed some protection against the sun and rain. So my requirements were good shade from sun on face and neck, a little bit of protection from rain, and I wanted to look Indiana Jones cool. This hat, according to my wife, ticks off all 3..The hats stitching is solid, with no loose threads, and there's a clear attention to details in how it's made. As other reviewers have mentioned, yes, it comes a little bent, but with a couple of books you can adjust the the hat to your preference, whether you're looking for rakish archeologist or manly cowboy, or whatever else your imagination can muster. For someone who finds hats incredibly uncomfortable, I found after a couple of hours that it settled quite nicely, so follow the sizing chart and you should be good.I did find that one night of rain and increased humidity did seem to cause the sides to want to curl a bit more, but once under the weight of a couple of books, it seemed to come right back down.Pros:- Great colour- Keeps off sun off- Well made, solid stitching- Comfortable for normal wear or draped cooly over your face while resting in a hammock- My wife says I look dapperCons:- You will need to mold the sides to your liking- This may require assistance from a more style inclined person- Humidity may frustrate your attempts to look awesomeI paid full price for this hat, and am happy I bought it.

Good sturdy hat
Sturdy good hat. Not really suitable for summer tho it's so thick. Wire in brim's edge helps to easily shape. This will be my go to fall and spring hat.
