Superior storage for herbs: easy to use, keeps them fresh for weeks!
I now own four of these Prepworks herb keepers. I had also tried out two other brands: the Cuisipro and the Prepara, but found the size and ease of use of this Prepworks herb keeper far superior. Here's why: the Cuisipro requires that you lift a handle, which raises a tray that holds the herbs up and out of the container. I found that the herbs would keep falling OUT of the container when I lifted them up in a tray. Augh. A hassle to use. The Prepara was excellent for small batches of herbs (thyme, mint), but I could not open the dang-blasted container without breaking a nail! Seriously, this container is so difficult to pry open you practically need a ballpeen hammer to shatter it! ARGH.By contrast, the Prepworks container lets you lift the lid, reach in, and pull a few sprigs out! What could be simpler! Yes, if it's jammed to the edges with a huge bunch of cilantro, you'll pull out a few more sprigs than you need. But that is not a big problem. I also find it very easy to roll my herbs up in a paper towel and insert them into the container AFTER I've added the water. I just gently tug on the paper towel, and it comes right out, leaving the stems of my herbs submerged in the water. I can keep thyme for about 2 or more MONTHS in this herb keeper! Cilantro lasts a good month - longer if I remove the herbs and just wipe down the condensation that builds up inside the container. In summer, there are SO many fabulous herbs out there that my four containers are filled to the brim for months - it's the best way to store just about every single herb out there. The exception is any form of basil, which I've found does best in a cup of water sitting in a sunny window. But I digress ....

Pointless Waste of Money
I purchased one of these herb keepers 6 months ago based on a strong recommendation on the site Apartment Therapy The Kitchn. I now regard it as a complete waste of money. The way it works is that you strip the leaves from the bottom of the bunch of herbs, then put them in just a little water in the base of the herb keeper - up to the line is faintly visible in the photo. Put the lid on and place it in your refrigerator. It can also be placed on your counter for more tender herbs like cilantro. The problems are 1) for some reason it is very difficult to screw the two parts together. It always takes me several tries to get it to work. I don't really understand why it needs to be in 2 pieces at all and it leaks if the water is too high ; 2) the herb bunches I buy from my local grocery story are too big so they stick out the top; 3) I use a lot of herbs and one bunch of parsley or cilantro fills the whole thing. Perhaps if you buy those little plastic packets of herbs, not big bunches, you could fit several at once; 4) used on the countertop for cilantro, it actually seemed to speed up spoilage.I did a 'test' dividing one bunch of parsley and one of cilantro into sections. One section I put in this herb keeper, leaving the cilantro on the counter and putting the parsley in the fridge. For both, I changed the water daily. The other section I simply rinsed and shook off. Then wrapped it in paper towel and put in the veg drawer of my refrigerator. After one week, the cilantro wrapped in a paper towel and plastic bag in the refrigerator was still fine. The cilantro on the counter was turning brown and slimy and sticking to the walls of the herb keeper. The parsley in the paper towel/plastic bag was still fresh. The parsley in the Prepworks herb keeper was also in good shape. However, I had to change the water daily on the stuff in the Prepworks container and because the parsley stuck out of the top of the keeper it was constantly annoying when you opened the door of the fridge. The herbs in the plastic bag required no attention. So I have returned to my old method of plastic bag and paper towel. On rare occasions, I also just put the herbs in water in a drinking glass in the fridge with a plastic bag put over the top. I am stuck with the Prepworks herb keeper, a single use item I have no use for.I usually try to say something nice in my reviews, but it's hard to think of anything nice to say about this. I do not recommend this item.

Actually works!
I stopped buying fresh mint & basil a while ago because it would only last a few days (a week at the most), and cooking for one, I never used it up fast enough. I thought I'd spend the money & give this a try. I received my Progressive herb keeper and tried it out for the first time. I bought the same herbs (mint) from the same store that I usually purchased them from and. after using a bit, placed them in the keeper and on the top shelf of the fridge. I had to go out of town and very pleasantly surprised to find them still in good condition when I returned. They have already lasted 3 weeks! 3 weeks is MUCH longer than they've ever lasted before. I am definitely a happy customer and am excited to be able to start buying fresh herbs again!

Works Great to Keep Asparagus Fresh
I buy lots of asparagus in the summertime, and I find that that the last few stalks would be wilted and limp. I ended up throwing out at least a servings worth. Purchased this, filled the bottom with water, put my asparagus in, and it is still fresh after a week in the fridge. Takes up very little room and fits nicely on the bottom shelf or in the door. Ordered a smaller one with dividers for my summertime herbs. Haven't received that yet, but looking forward to it.

Not Exactly a "Must Have"
I ordered two Progressive International Herb Keepers, and I've given up using it for herbs. I compared the freshness of parsley kept in one of the purchased herb keepers with parsley rinsed, wrapped in a paper towel, and stored in a Ziplock bag. Over nine days, I saw no difference in freshness. I also kept parsley for three weeks in the other Progressive Herb Keeper that I ordered. After that amount of time the parsley began yellowing and the stems were getting mushy.I started keeping green onions (which does keep fresh for longer periods) in the herb keeper. It's good for green onions and fits perfectly in the refrigerator door. Nice, novel product, but--in my opinion--not a "must have."

Keeps herbs fresh for weeks!
I love this thing! In the past, the best way I've found to store cilantro is in the refrigerator in a jar with a plastic bag on top. It works, but I'm always worried about roommates knocking it over and spilling water everywhere while rooting around in our overcrowded refrigerator. This keeps my cilantro fresh for weeks, is sealed enough that I don't have to worry about it getting knocked over, and doesn't take up much space. Plus, it looks great in my fridge.

It's great. Herbs that would go bad in less than a week can now easily last 2-4 weeks, and sometimes more. Just need to remember to change the water every couple of days and keep an eye to remove the bits that are starting to go bad.It fits great in the fridge and very easy to clean.
