My 4 and 7-year-old kids have a bunch of kits, but, once those are made, they were having trouble being creative with all the specialized pieces. I was looking for big set of basic bricks, like what I spent hours playing with when I was a kid in the 1970s. This fit the bill. The differences for my kids were immediate. They often sit down together now and build and build and build. The one thing I'd say about these is that it can be harder to get them apart than some other pricier bricks. Nonetheless I'm very pleased for the price paid.

This is a decent set of basic building brick components at at a good price. The hardcore builder might not find enough variety in this set, or might dispute the quality from the original. However, for a casual builder who wants to tinker, these are perfectly adequate. My set came with a good mix of sizes (1x1, 1x2, 1x4, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4) and colors (red, blue, green, lime green, yellow, grey, white, turquoise, orange-yellow) although some sizes had more of some colors and none of others. I'm not sure if ever set has the same mix of sizes and colors or if they are just random assortments in each box. There is also a small package of "special" pieces (wheels, etc). Although the total piece count in this set is decent (1,000 pieces) due to the number of difference sizes and colors, you don't get a whole lot of any one size and color. If your project needs a large number of any one size/color combination, you should purchase multiple sets. But, at this price, you can afford to. If you're looking to do some casual brick building, you'll be just as happy with these bricks as the more expensive brands, and have extra money in your pocket afterwards (or more bricks on your table). PROS: Just like the more expensive brands Good assortment of basic sizes and colors A small selection of special pieces Comes with a separator tool CONS: Not a lot of each size/color combination No special curved or flat pieces, or bases; Just basic rectangular bricks Conclusion: After buying one box, I'm going to buy another half dozen boxes.
