Hard to put down
I was searching for a book for one of my 17 yr olds and the excerpt caught my eye. I haven't read for years even though i was an avid reader, life just happens sometimes. This book, while it is targeted as YA is a good read for all. I read the entire book in two days, I was so enticed I stayed up late to finish it.My daughter, who also happens to not only be a fraternal twin, already had something in common with the main character, Ellery. She's not just a twin, she and her brother both prefer girls. This is great as it gave her an immediate connection to the characters and finally, an actual book sans the animation. She also enjoyed the book and it's nice to have something not related to video games and TV shows that at my age I just don't see the fascination with that I can talk about with her.We will definitely be reading more books by this author.

A Must Read
Karen kept me hooked from the very first chapter. She knows how to hold you in suspense and keep you guessing on who the killer is. Just when I thought I knew, a curve ball was thrown! Read it, it won't disappoint!

Another great book from Karen M. McManus!
“There’s not easy way of knowing, which direction we are going….”Remember that crazy boat ride in Willy Wonka? Things were spinning and there were strange images popping up. As you looked at each one, you were wondering where were we going with it all and what a ride! That is this book. I loved it!Ellery and Ezra arrive at a hometown that they have never known. Their actress mother grew up there. She was homecoming queen and in this town, that is not a good town. She is in a drug rehab and they are going to live with their grandmother. A murder of the homecoming queen years earlier seems to be repeating itself when weird images and things start popping up around town, warning that it could happen again. Ellery is somewhat of a murder nut and she starts to put clues together. This also includes clues about her own mother’s twin sister who disappeared years ago, the night of homecoming. After a weird exchange with a fellow student, Brooke, she goes missing. Cue the dah dah daaahhhhh music.Ellery becomes friends with Malcolm. who’s brother was thought to be the killer of the dead homecoming queen and Mia, whose sister was best friends with said homecoming queen. Such a delicious tangled web!I had no idea where this wonderful ride was going to end up. It could have been in the horribly named Murder Land. I mean, really, would you go to a theme park named Murder Land? They do rename it to Fright Farm but being the wuss I am, still a big no. Whodunit? Whydunit? You will not be disappointed and you will tear through the pages of this book.If you have not yet read Karen’s book One of Us is Lying, pick it up, you slacker! You will not be disappointed in either of these books. In fact, you will thank me. You are welcome.

3.5 Stars
I went into this book with high hopes because Karen is my favorite YA-Mystery writer. With that being said, I enjoyed parts of this book. The small town theme is something I liked and the homecoming theme. The characters were pretty good for the most part. Now, I felt as if this book fell a bit flat for me. The main character Ellery, was interesting at first but became a little annoying with the Junie B. Jones act. There were so many useless characters that I got confused and had to start over and write them all down for clarity. Also, there were a lot of side stories to build up the mystery element, but if anything it just made the book more of a task to read than enjoyable. The ending was short lived and I was disappointed with it because I figured it out early in the first chapter.Long story short, clear your expectations and just enjoy the twisty ride.3.5 stars, looking forward to the OOUIL sequel. Karen’s still my favorite YA-Mystery writer, I have faith in her!

I flew through this one!
Two Can Keep a Secret is the latest young adult mystery from Karen McManus. Knowing her debut mystery was an excellent read (I heard many readers raved about it) I was really excited to see how her newest one panned out. Well, I was thrilled with it! For a young adult novel, I really fell into the story. I was consumed by it from page one and and devoured it page by page until the end. This is an easy read, and being 323 pages, a book you can read rather quickly. Also, seeing as the topic of the story is so interesting, I knew I would fly through it! If you are a fan of these types of mysteries, ones with EPIC TWISTS (I didn't see THAT coming), then I would recommend this one to you.In Two Can Keep a Secret, readers will meet Ellery, Ezra, Malcolm, and a slew of secondary characters. The main characters of the story are Ellery and Malcolm and the book is told in dual POV's through them. When Ellery and Ezra come to live with their grandmother in Echo Ridge, they don't realize they are going to become part of a murder mystery from the past that bleeds into the present. You see, someone is stalking homecoming queens, and when one goes missing? All hell breaks loose in this small town. Ellery, a true crime buff, stops at nothing and uses her knowledge of crime to try and figure out the mystery of the disappearance of a classmate, and that of her mothers twin sister many years ago.The author does a wonderful job at weaving the crime of the past into the present and shocks readers with some epic twists along the way. The characters are very likable, albeit a little naive, and make the story as interesting as the plot. There were so many things that I didn't see coming while reading, and I found myself shocked at the ending! I think many will agree that this is the author who needs to be watched because based on this book and her prior release, she is bound to create more amazing and thrilling stories.
