These are great - providing audio control where needed
First off, if you are looking at these, you know this is an accessory for another item, the DBX Driverack. These are used for remote control of an audio signal for large public/commercial installations. This allows the user to control the volume at the end location without using a fader. The signal input is reduced (or muted) before it enters the amplifier. The device mounts on the wall in the desired location.I purchased several of these for our church, and it has worked out very well for us.Installation: Once you select the location, you install an electical box in-wall (low voltage is fine) and run a Cat5 network wire to the box. Install an RJ-45 plug at both ends, set the DIP switches to control the correct channel (1-6 on our driverack) and plug the cable in to the driverack and the wall control. If you mount more than one of these, you need to plan your wiring in-line, as the network cabling connects via a daisy chain (you don't have to run from each panel to the driverack). Plan your wiring from the farthest point to the next unit in, next unit in, and so on until you get back to the drive rack. You could run normal prebuilt RJ-45 cables, but it's much better to run the Cat5 wiring first and crimp your own cables as you are installing the boxes and control panels.Once the controls are mounted and the dip switches set for the correct channels, set each wall knob at "10" and your maximum desired volume on the amplifier you will be using for that remote location. Once this is set, you never touch the amp again, and your users can turn the volume up or down as desired, and can simply mute by pressing the button (which then lights up).Since this is a control signal for the preamp in the driverack, there is no noise introduced by the wiring or the panel, so these can be run anywhere in your building. Takes a little planning but the result is worth it. These units allowed dedicated control in each location without having to run up and down the stairs to pass along requests for more or less volume.Everyone who uses our system is very pleased with the control they have. Highly recommended!
