Easy to use and makes really nice labels
I love this thing! It came highly recommended by Jennifer McGuire as a tool to mark scrapbooking supplies and that is what I have used it for so far although it will be handy all around the house. It comes with a sample tape that has lasted pretty well, and tape is available in various sizes and colors. You can read the included instructions but it's pretty intuitive if you are the type that just starts fiddling around with a new gizmo. You can dress up your labels with a myriad of little icons, and there's a selection of five or so fonts in several sizes. The tapes couldn't be easier to change -- just open the bottom, remove one cartridge and replace it with another. No threading or fussing. The backing peels off the label easily, and so far every label I've made has stayed stuck where I put it. The price seems to fluctuate every time I look at it. I paid about $20 for it here and saw it the next week for $10, but mostly it's around $30 and well worth it even at that price. The labels seem to run about $10 a cartridge and I don't know yet how long they will last. The only critique I have, and I think there's a solution for it that I haven't figured out yet, is that it ejects quite a bit of tape with each label. Seems to me that I waste about a third of the cartridge on blank spaces.

Great Product! Very fast and and Easy-to-Use! Love it! Recommend!
This labeler is very intuitive, works and prints quickly, and has more options than I know what to do with! It's extremely useful. I first saw this item at Office Deport for $39.99 (!); amazon.com offered the same product at a MUCH better price. I also own the previous version of this Brother Labeler (another P-Touch- it was significantly larger!)- and I made sure all the cartridges I had already purchased for my 'old' labeler would work with this new one (PTD200) - and they do! Which saved me a TON of money! Only two small drawbacks- both of which you might expect with ANY labeler: 1. The ink/ribbon cartridges last a long time, but can be expensive (which is typical!) 2. This model requires 6 (yes, six!) AAA batteries, so if you use your labeler a lot, you will likely need to replace the batteries a little more often than expected- but worth it! I would highly recommend this device, as I have been using it for some time, and NO problems!

EXCELLENT LABELER - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!
Best $10 purchase I have made in a long time! The labeler is compact, has numerous features, a QWERTY keyboard, and prints quality labels that you would expect from Brother. I assume that many of the negative reviews are from customers who did not read the operating instructions that come with the unit - especially the comments about "wasted tape" - read the instructions and adjust the margin. As far as the battery life issue, I loaded the unit with six brand new, name brand batteries and they lasted through the 4-meter sample tape and into a replacement cartridge before showing a "low battery" warning (and it's still going). The instructions advise to use brand new batteries of a quality brand name, not to mix and match brand names or rechargables, and remove the batteries if the unit is to remain idle for some time between uses. I understand that there can be quality control issues between lot numbers, and items are sometimes supplied by different vendors, so it's possible some people got a bad product, but I guarantee a few of the negative respondents unpacked the labeler, put in two new duracells, one new energizer, and three half-dead panasonics from their T.V. remotes, then cried foul when the labeler died within the hour. Six AAA batteries is a lot for one device, but all of the top brand labelers are the same in this regard. As an option, there is a $15 AC adapter that you can buy separately which saves you the battery cost and brings your total to $25, which is still a bargain for this labeler. Another reviewer advised that you could try using an AC adapter that you already have; just remember, the plug has to be the right type and the adapter has to be properly rated for it to work. You can find the adapter requirements listed in the labeler instruction manual to see if you already have one that will work. One other tip; buy replacement cartridges from Amazon or Walmart - several dollars cheaper than the office supply stores.

Great tool, very good price, easy to use the basic functions.
Great price for this item. I've not had to use the user's manual yet, and i've been able to label all my Christmas boxes, random tool boxes, cables behind my TV (for when you need to disconnect things but don't want to trace wires all the way back to the source). THat said, it looks like there's a ton of additional functionality that I can use once I get around to learning it. This brings up a good point; if the machine itself were just a little more intuitive, I don't think a manual would even be necessary. But there are some buttons that aren't exactly clear as to what their icons mean. I'd love to be able to use slightly more of the features than I've been able to uncover myself. But even so, great tool and very easy to use the basic functionality.

A great label maker that has many options. Do you want bold text? Different fonts? Multiple lines? This fits all your wants and needs. You can use other labels that fit in this machine and there are not problems. Nice to have the option to be battery operated (6x AAA) or with a plug. Has many different options other than just labels. Can have different frames and symbols, and modes that create premade badge designs. Has a cutter that easily cuts off your labels such that you don't have to go reaching for scissors. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a label maker.

Works great. Labels are great and there's a lot to customize. No charger so it drains six AAA batteries. Options for label margins always give lots of wasted space or misaligned text. Overall satisfied.
