A great expansion for Detective
My group loves mystery-solving games like Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective and we had a fun time with Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game. I wasn't sure if I would like the new setting for this expansion to Detective; L.A. in the 80s holds no real appeal to me, especially compared to the very modern feel of the base game. But despite the change of scenery, the game feels essentially the same. I even liked the era-appropriate overlay added to the website.A few of the new mechanics (especially stakeouts) are used well enough to provide a little variation without introducing rules that are too complicated. The plot is fun, sort of similar at times to the base game's campaign, with a nice blend of fiction and real-world history and locations. The mysteries felt slightly easier to solve this time around, which we didn't mind. The only major flaw we ran into is there are some ambiguous new rules added in the final case. Figuring out how to handle them took some time and deliberation from my group. We still like how that case turned out, but some clarity would have been appreciated.

Best game ever!
Best game ever! If you are into this kind of game. It’s not for younger kids. You have to be ready to think and put lots of time and mental energy into this game. We are quarantined so we bought the first detective game and loved it so much we bought this one and got our friends to buy it and we play it together over zoom. I absolutely love the challenge and how real the game is. You get clues but they also have you look up words or things on google. It’s a well thought out game. You become immersed in the realistic story and before you know it HOURS have gone by and your still in the middle of a case. I highly recommend!!

Where does the code go?
There is a code that comes with the box but it does not say where to put it in the website provided. Also you have to find a way to play using the cards and searching things on the database. There is often 15-20 leads right off the start all you do is find matching evidence on the database that’s it and you type report and answer a few questions and they give you a score. I love the story of the game but not the way the game was put together with all the flash cards, stewed tokens, and the code that i do not know where to enter.
