LEUCHTTURM1917 - Notebook Softcover Medium A5-123 Numbered Pages for Writing and Journaling (Plain, Black)

This is the fourth of these notebooks I’ve purchased and none other compare! I absolutely love the feel of the paper and the cover, the paper is heavy enough to not bleed easily. I carry it everyday and it holds up perfectly.

I’ve tried several other brands & I keep going back to this one. It stays together & looks good. I carry it every day, toss it in car, into my purse, etc. These maybe a couple dollars more but it will not disappoint.

I bullet journal and there’s just nothing that beats the quality of this product. I even got my previous one wet by accident and could still use it. Have bought many times and will again.

This first bit of the review is about where I'm coming from as someone who uses journals. I bought this around September of 2014 after I filled a lined, hardback moleskine while studying abroad. Most of the time I use a journal to record travels, thoughts, and some drawings from time to time, and I stuff it with knickknacks from places I go.In that regard, it worked beautifully. The pocket is quite convenient in the back, and the elastic band still has pull to it. While I did stuff it with more souvenirs during my study abroad, my hardback moleskine lost most of its elastic strength in just 6 months. They both still keep the books closed, so it's not an extremely significant setback.As for the paper, I normally used whatever pen was around, but I sometimes draw with microns. There's no bleed through, but most any pen will be visible on the other side. I kind of enjoy it. I got the chance to be a little bit "sophisticated" or pretentious when I received a simple pilot fountain pen. This pen shows through a little more than a cheap office pen, but about like any nice ball point.I've included pictures to show how it looks with writing and drawings, stuffed with tickets and things, and a scale to my hands. I'm pretty solidly medium in any glove.As for how well the journal fit me, this is the only area where I took a star away. Personally, the crisp pages, well made soft bound back, and page numbers were too neat for me. The table of contents was quite convenient, and I did utilize all the features. It inspired me to practice writing in a foreign language, and keep my thoughts organized. However, I felt as if I should own a MacBook Air, drink coffee in nice corner shops, and practice for my memoirs.I want something that makes me feel as if it's ok to be messy and inspires me to let go. Rather than simply inserting my receipts and ticket stubs, I want to paste them in my book, draw on top of them, paint on top of that, and write around my artwork. This book didn't feel as if it gave me that creative freedom, so my next journal will be a completely different style.All that being said, I did feel a huge sentimental attachment to the book once I filled it up. If you're looking for a neat and organized way to record your thoughts in a quality journal, this is an EXCELLENT option.

I just began that trendy new fad, Bullet Journaling, and this was the first journal I purchased for that purpose. I am extremely pleased with the quality and functionality of this book.Features:* Excellent quality paper with a very smooth, silky feel - little ghosting, no bleeding with the CORRECT pens/markers* Pocket inside back cover, almost as large as the cover itself* Blank index pages in the front of the journal* Pre-numbered pages (120 total, not including the index pages)* Elastic wrap/enclosure & attached bookmark* Soft cover is reasonably durable & flexible* Lies completely flat when opened so writing never feels awkward* Pages subtly perforatedOn ink & bleeding::: I have been using either Staedtler fineliners or Microliners made for journaling, and there is ZERO bleeding, very faint ghosting, although IF I color in something darkly, using a lot of ink, there is a hint of bleeding. My regular gel pens are fine as well. I also tried out a Faber-Castell brush tip pen and amazingly enough it didn't bleed either!On embellishments::: I have used a lot of washi tape on my pages, and as long as the tape hasn't been attached for too long, it usually removes without ripping the paper at all. I've also used a glue pen to attach little die cuts, and the paper doesn't warp from the moisture at all.According to other journalers, the comparable Moleskine has a slightly less quality paper, and it definitely tends to ghost and bleed more than the Leuchtturm. I don't think there's anything else this good, at least nothing that's remotely close to this price range. My next purchase will be a hardcover Leuchtturm because those come in a variety of fun colors. The medium softcovers are tough to find in anything but black.

This is perhaps the best notebook I have every used. I use this both for journaling and bullet lists and it handles both tasks with ease. The size is just right, it lays flat as advertised, it is extremely durable (I take it everywhere), the paper is perfect, the grid darkness is ideal and it includes numbered pages, date lines and a index. I really cannot say enough good things about it. Coming from Moleskine, this is in a totally different class of journal.I switch up my pens on a regular basis and I have had zero trouble with bleedthrough and only slight showthrough with certain pens. Here is what I have found.Kaweco Sport Fountain Pen, Fine Nib, Royal Blue ink - No bleed, moderate show-through.Staedtler Pigment Liner 0.3 - No bleed, extremely light show-through.Sakura Pigment Liner 0.3 - No bleed, almost no show through.Sakura Pigment Liner 0.5 - No bleed, light show through.Pilot G2 in blue - No bleed, light show through.Sharpie Fine Pen - No bleed, moderate show through.All-in-all, it has handled all the pens I have thrown at it. And whereas Moleskines start to feel loose and the paper gets worn after some usage, the Leuchtturm still looks pretty dog-gone close to new. I love it so much I had a leather cover made so that I will have a case for all my Leuchtturm notebooks that will follow (see pic).If you journal, bullet note, write or do technical drawings on the go, you really can't beat it.

Now, look. I have been a moleskin man since I first started writing things down and trying to enjoy the process. I enjoyed sitting in meetings with my fountain pen and squared notebook while others pretended to take note on their ipads while 'secretly' emailing each other. Since retiring, I needed to organise more and bumped into the idea of bullet journals. My time is precious now. I have fewer heartbeats left. Not having to number pages or write 'index' at the top of a page means that I have more time to watch 'Le Tour'. I cannot comment on bleeding, as I have only used triplus fineliners and pencil, so far. So I reckon the Leuchturm notebook pretty well does what it says on the tin, and is pretty good at doing it enjoyably and smoothly. Next one up will be the dotted version. I hope the elastic lasts.

Firstly, this book is very skinny and has far fewer pages than the hardback version - I don't understand why they can't do a soft cover with the same number of pages?The book also doesn't feel as sturdy and some of the seams in the middle of the book are quite loose. The soft cover is curling upwards at the outside edge. I've got soft cover Moleskines and have never had this issue before.However, that said, the cover is a beautiful soft leather, the colour is absolutely gorgeous, and the paper is the same wonderful quality I've come to expect from Leuchtturm. Love that the strap and the book marks are also in the same soft pink colour.

Those Leuchtturm notebooks are great and come in a whole range of beautiful colours, formats, line patterns ; the cover texture feels nice, the paper is of good quality with a nice slightly yellowish/cream "oldschool" colour, the pages can be opened flat with relative ease. The notebooks also come with additional features such as an index page you can fill, numbered pages with small margin on one side, a place to write the date on every page, stickers for labelling the book and a pocket on the last page to store any kind of additional documents. You can buy a small elastic loop to stick on the notebook to hold a pen. All those additional features are relatively discrete however if you like your pages to be clear of anything except your writing this might not suit you. Other than that, it's always a pleasure to store and get those notebooks from the shelf/your bag and write something in them, they might cost more than the average (to be confirmed) but I do not regret my money at all. Regarding the durability, they seem to resist well to be carrier in my bag however I would need more time to really say.

I've tried pretty much every bit of paper I could get my hands on to work with a fountain pen with a medium nib, and this notebook is by far the best.My pen comes up slightly wet, but there's no bleed through, it dries fast and the notepad is the perfect size to carry around all day.Love the index to fill out at the front, and that it comes with stickers etc. for archiving. I use 5 to 6 of these a year as I do a lot of writing and they are awesome.

After thinking these books must be amazing because of all the reviews I've seen I was shocked at how small it was "that's what she said". It was thin, and when using fineliners you can kind of see the ink through the pages for £16 I expected a bit more. No difference to WHSmith journals, there arent many pages so not sure if it will last a whole year if you wanted extra bullet journal pages for photos etc we will see. Also every page is numbered so if you wanted to rip it out If you make a mistake it's kind of hard to because it will look strange with numbers missing. Nice pink colour and feel , just wash it was a bit thicker and had some more pages.
