After attempting to make my own taco seasoning I finally decided I just wasn't that good at it and gave in and got this taco seasoning in packets. To be honest this is not overly spicy or salty at all. Which might be perfect for you. I just didn't realize I'd want to spice it up a bit with a little cayenne and chili powder. I also sprinkled in just a tad bit more seasoning salt and onion powder. That made it perfect for me! With the packets you have the thickening so all the ground meat is covered in a delicious sauce. The liquid evaporates for the most part and you only have to add in 3/4 cup of water. The whole process takes about ten minutes which is great if you are really hungry and don't want to wait 30-40 minutes to make dinner! You will need one pound of ground meat and some taco shells (I heat them up in the oven for a few minutes). I also like having sour cream, shredded lettuce, salsa and shredded sharp cheddar cheese! Delicious! When I got these I did not realize there were different heat levels. I think I prefer a little spicier flavor so this is easy to adapt with my own spices! I like that this is not overly salty which is an issue with most packaged foods these days! So yeah, you can adapt this to your own salt and heat level. Perfect for the adventurous cook! For some reason my area is always out of the low sodium. These are good heat level for the kids, but still a healthy choice for the grandparents. The only brand that doesn't give heartburn. Price is a little high.

I had never seen the lower salt version in mild in a grocery store, so I was happy to find these on Amazon. My husand HATES heat. I make a burrito filling with them: 1 pack spice mix 1 pound ground beef, chicken or turkey 1 can sweet corn (drain and save juice) 1 can black beans (drain and save juice) 1 large onion, chpped 1 can of flavored or plain diced tomatoes (drain and save juice Use the juices from cans to add the required water to your mixture. Simmer until the flavors blend (maybe an hour). Check occassionally and add more water if it appears to be getting too dry.

Love this seasoning for my homemade tacos. Hard to find in the grocery store. Tried the regular taco seasonings, but the less sodium actually tastes better than all the others. I like McCormick brands for the quality.
