It's a great book which is helping me in pursuing my dream to understand Japanese

Unfortunately I was turned off by the cover art and for too long ignored this superb "From Zero" series for Japanese-language self-learners. I've started working with Japanese lesson books, tapes, CD's, etc., a number of times over the years and always quit in exasperation. Not this time. This is terrific! Progress is fast and as close to painless as you'll ever get in studying the language.The thing is, I've already lived in Japan for a number of years, long enough to know that if you really want to learn the language, not just street talk, you've got to do it with a holistic approach. That is, take on the whole ball of wax at once: spoken, written, read. Start like a tyke and work your way up. Don't be too proud. There are excellent university and language school immersion programs that do that with great results, but this is the first I've encountered that makes it practical for the at-home learner who has to go it alone or with a little help from friends or spouse.In short, the Trombley/Takenaka system REALLY WORKS! It's the best money I've ever spent for studying Japanese. Take it from a guy who has to use the language every day and has been embarrassed for too long by his inept サバイバル日本語.

I have used many different Japanese language manuals and have some experience. This book is the best choice for people who don't know Japanese at all. Don't worry if you don't know Japanese writing, you will learn it gradually and by the end of the book you will have mastered Hiragana in addition to the basics of Japanese

The best part is the online support and videos that complement the book.
