These are the same lined notebooks used by school kids in France for a century!
When I was a kid at the French Lycee in London in the 1970s, we had these notebooks with similarly ruled lines which helped us to write in cursive correctly. I have sought out such notebooks for decades, and am so pleased that these are exactly the ones used then, and presumably also used by schoolkids all over France.

Super Helpful for Improving Penmanship
The only reason I got a Clairefontaine notebook is to get Seyers (or "French") ruled paper. It's really helpful when you want to improve your penmanship. What I didn't expect was how good the paper is. It's smooth and bright white. The printed lines (grid for Seyers) are consistent. I've been using a Pentel roller ball, and it's not bleeding through at all. (I don't know about a fountain pen, though).Just a heads up: The size of the grid is not for people with big handwriting. The line for the lowercase letters is only 2 mm tall.I like that the notebook was made in France and not a country with questionable labor practices. I also like that the cover is thick paper, poster-board thick. It's got a coating that makes it easy to wipe off a few rain drops or whatever. It's not pokey plastic. The cover FEELS better than plastic.I got the staple-bound version. It's not the most aesthetic, but it's super easy to recycle. (Pull out a couple of staples and recycle the paper.) It also lies surprisingly flat.I'm obviously very happy with my purchase!

Great notebook for French ruled paper
The paper is high quality. It is great for using with fountain pens. I like the French ruled paper for practicing handwriting.

-1 Due to Bent Cover
Overall the paper in these is exquisite. Perfect for perfecting my calligraphy and hand lettering. I had to take 1 star away since a cover of one arrived bent. Each arrived in plastic however, this one somehow has a crease. I will definitely purchase again and hope that it's sent in more durable outer packaging. Thank you for such a great item.

NOT 1st Quality; misprint notebooks. Extremely disappointed in quality and service being sent these for full price
These were NOT French-ruled notebooks. These are misprinted notebooks. I bought 2 and they are not French rule as stated in the description. They are also NOT graph paper by chance. Even that would be more useful. They are multiple tiny lines going multiple directions and the French rule is on the wrong direction. These are completely useless for writing. I have bought more than 40 of these notebooks in the past from other sellers and I have never paid as much as these cost (chose them because they were 1 day Prime shipping and needed them ASAP). These were a waste of money and worse than factory seconds. I'm attaching a picture to show what both notebooks look like. Both notebooks have an extra computer printed sticker over the UPC that says: "Discription (sic); Clairefontaine Notebook 21x29, 7cm 96"BOTH notebooks I ordered are identically misprinted and cost more than $9.00 each.
