A MUST READ!!
This is a MUST read for any medical student or resident. Dr Harbin clearly and concisely summarizes the multiple concerns and aspects which every professional encounters as he/she matriculates from college through their graduate school through residency training and fellowship. The underlying theme regarding the "culture" into which each of us is exposed, be it in Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Veterinary Medicine, etc, resonates throughout the book and forms a valid basis from which every professional can gain guidance for a happy and successful job and future. The introduction of the material presented becomes ever more important as significant changes evolve in our societal service. This book should be mandatory reading (and required by the respective professional schools) for everyone from the beginning of their graduate schooling through whatever employment they choose. READ IT AND LEARN!!Craig J.Schaefer, MD, FACS

I loved this book
I loved this book. It offered a brief thumbnail sketch of things I really do wish I had learned in med school...OR residency for that matter. I purchased 12 copies and shared them with my partners. I strongly encourage all groups to do a study of the major themes.

Practical and Actionable Business Insight
Dr. Harbin is articulate and able to consolidate the most important aspects of an MBA program into a 200 page book. The book does a great job focusing on business as well as life mantras. Although you obviously can't discribe all aspect of business in a book, Dr. Harbin does a good job focusing the most practical and actionable items

Decent overview
The book highlights many aspects of medicine physicians at all levels of training/career ought to be aware of, but misses the mark on many specifics and tangible advice I was seeking as a physician-in-training. Also, the advice for residents entering the job market favored too heavily the conundrum of the employer rather than the bargaining power or negotiations that help the new employee avoid being exploited.

"What Every Ophthalmologist Should Know"
I first learned of Dr. Tom Harbin, MD, MBA and his books in 2011 after hearing him present at the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in Vienna. I especially enjoyed the second part of the book that related to: business communication, organizational behavior, marketing, and more. At the time, I was working as a Practice Administrator for a US Ophthalmic group. I found relevant pearls that I was able to share with the surgeons I worked for and apply in my day-to-day operations. Thank you Dr. Harbin for sharing your knowledge and such interesting personal experiences. The Business Side of Medicine...What Medical Schools Don't Teach YouThe Business Side of Medicine: What Medical Schools Don't Teach You

Life career advice book not a business plan
This is not a detailed book for every financial legal issue you might face but gives you an idea what to seek from your partners, lawyers, and accountant. However this is not a comprehensive book by any means. It deals more with practical thoughts and ideas.

Excellent read for everyone
This book is directed at primary care physicians, but the wisdom it provides should be useful to everyone. It's well-written and fun to read, and it contains a wealth of practical advise that will be helpful to all at work and at home.
