Yes. I mostly use it on half frozen roasts that I plan to marinate. Creates deep spaces for marinade. Easy to clean too, if you clean soon after using. It's my favorite tenderizer. Handle carefully. Kids can do more than put an eye out.

I don't understand your question? What do you mean by live meat? It is intended to tenderize steaks, chicken, and chops before cooking. It is very well crafted and works extremely well.

It is all metal and definitely safe for dishwasher.

I don't know about actual pig skin, but I have had some roasts that have had a thick layer of tendon that it's a little tough to get through, but if you hit hard enough it will do it. The only real problem I see is that when you do have to go through tendons or thick fat, it gets stuck in the meat and is REALLY difficult getting it out, the blades do not want to slide through anything other than muscle. But since that isn't the norm and this works great with a standard cuts of meat, I wouldn't disregard it because of that. I used to tenderize my meat by hand with a very sharp fine pointed pairing knife...which as you can guess can be quite time consuming, but then I found this and I'm happy with it. So bottom line, when it works, it works great...and cleans very easily. Good luck!
