I may be a convert!
Recently I was looking for some heads to put on a set of Starion shells that I modified. My original plan was to use a set of Attack heads on both the resonant and the batter side of these shells. That decision was based mostly on price. Not completely though as I have used the Attack heads for resonant heads with very good results. The Attack heads that I bought though are single ply. To me that make them great candidates for resonant heads but I think a two ply head is better for a batter head. I gave the Attacks a shot on both sides but I wasn't completely happy with the sound and felt a two ply head would just be the better way to go.In the past I have used Remo heads for batter heads almost exclusively. I still very much like the Remo Pinstripe heads but decided to give these Evans heads a try just to try something different. I am very happy I did! These Starion shells now have a very nice sound with lots of resonance. The most noticeable difference between these G2's and the Attacks is that the tuning range seems to be much wider. The Attacks had a very narrow tonal range where they resonated. The G2's seem to resonate everywhere! From very loose to moderately tight they have very nice sound and resonance. I have some Moon Gel damping pads installed to cut down on some of the resonance but doing it this way instead of choking the drum offers a much better sound. By adding, removing, or moving the Moon Gel pads around I can control exactly how much resonance the drums have without having to change the heads tune.I should mention that I am still using the single ply Attacks for the resonant side. With the G2's on top and the Attacks on the bottom these shells sound great! Also, on the bass drum I have Attack no ring heads on both sides. I also have a pillow in there for damping and this bass drum sounds just amazing! So, the Attacks have their place but on the batter side I am very impressed with the sound, tuning range, and ease of tuning of these G2's. If you've never tried them, give them a shot, if you have you likely already know what I'm talking about!

The perfect head for toms.
I’ve tried other heads on my toms, but I keep coming back to the coated G2’s. They are extremely durable. If you break one of these, something is horribly wrong with your technique. The coating lasts a long time and adds a bit of warmth to the attack vs clear heads. They have a great blend of attack, tone, and sustain, without too much of any one element, making them versatile for many styles of music and types of drums. The only scenario where they might not work as well is on smaller jazz kits with high tunings, where something like the single-ply G1 would be more desirable to achieve an open, singing tone. But for most applications, the G2 batter/G1 reso combination is a classic for a reason. Plus, the Level 360 collar makes them ridiculously easy to tune and stay that way.

New drum heads
Replaced the heads on old drum set. These heads have a good quality tight sound. Very responsive and I like the black color.

Great heads
While theses are batter heads , I put them on as bottoms to get a look for my kit I was going for. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that they gave my drums a nice deep sound. I had been looking for a way to achieve this and it was a nice accident when I found these head’s brought it to me. I may even buy another set for batters once my current heads wear out. Great buy.

Perfect for the right applications and the price point is unbeatable
I almost always start with Remo ambassadors-coated or clear and start from there as far as tuning, dampening, etc. However for the specific kit and the music for one of my current projects needed something different. It is a vintage kit, and the music needed for the Tom's to be dampened but still have tone and warmth- not sound like boxes and thuss and/ or rely on effects to give tone. These were almost 10$ less than the emperors, (especially since I got them from warehouse in "like new" condition meaning they were never installed). I had used them before but had forgotten how well they work. Tone is there, and stick rebound doesn't suffer much from the second ply/ extra thickness. The kit I put them on already (for some reason) had G2 clear on the reso side. Somehow this combination on a late 60s/ early 70s thin shell kit works well, with warm tones and very little additional overring or volume control, but still has a dynamic range.
