Every 1st grade class needs this book!
I taught 1st grade for my first five years of teaching, and I would have made this one of my first read aloud if it had been written back at the turn of the century. Ava is lovable and, like all kids, gets herself into some situations. But I bet a young reader you knowcwould relate to her, so find yourself or a reader you love a copy! This book will hook readers, and then there is another coming out in January.

Relatable and uplifting
This is the perfect book for those starting first grade, sharing Ava's experience and dealing with others (friendships, misunderstandings, family, community).Easy to read with great font size and fun illustrations, including some pages with panels. Uplifting too in her search for a best friend.

Ava Lin is a standout new early chapter book series!
I adored this first book in the new Ava Lin series. Ava is full of personality and ideas. Young readers will find Ava's interests and problems totally relatable and will cheer her on in her quest to find a best friend in her new first grade class. As a parent, I laughed when Ava's pocket full of "treasures" went through the wash -- although I think that mishap is a bit on Ava's mom. Always check the pockets!! The series reminds me a bit of Ivy and Bean, but geared more toward beginning readers. Frequent illustrations contribute to the humor of the story, and short chapters will help young readers feel successful as they read. This is truly a standout!

Funny and relatable
In this start to a new chapter book series, we meet Ava Lin, a girl who is so full of wonder and personality. Her hilarious antics and misunderstandings get her into a bit of trouble as she seeks out a best friend (a very relatable quest for young kids). I think kids will relate to her triumphs and tribulations as she navigates the start of first grade. Plus, the voice of the story and the adorable illustrations make it a really fun read. Love this funny new chapter book series, and I can't wait for more books.

My 7 year old gives this book 5 stars!
This was a great book to kick off my 7yr old's summer reading! He finished it in just 2 days. He liked that the story was realistic and funny. He thought the funniest part was when one character poured soy sauce in Ava's bubble tea.

Relatable, funny, and cute!
Ava Lin is the perfect illustrated chapter book for fans of Dory Fantasmagory. Ava wants a best friend and she’s determined to make one in first grade. From her looong list of favorite pets to a mishap with pebble, kids will relate to this brand new character. Fantastic illustrations will keep kids turning the pages and give new readers confidence when they finish a whole book all by themselves.
