Good Quality
These are a lot lot faster than using a rake. However there are a few things to note. Firstly read the instructions - yes really. They explain how to 'walk' the lawn - feet straight up/down. If you try walking normally the toe straps slip off. I was dead keen to try these out when they arrived today. My back garden is better suited to pottery throwing than growing a lawn but I'm giving it one last chance before turning it over to gravel. The product was easy to assemble and very sturdy. The instructions for threading the straps are fine but I found it difficult to tighten the straps enough to stop the toes straps slipping off occasionally. It may have been the shoes I was wearing - just old trainers. Next, don't go out as I did - on a wet soggy lawn (did I say lawn?). The spikes sometimes pull up some turf - but that may have been me lapsing into normal walking mode. So, if the lawn is firm and you do the up/down walking you should be ok. I'm thinking of buying ratchet straps to allow me to tighten the toe straps better. Of course, it's too early for me to say if the spiking has the desired effect - others say it does - but I reckon I got in early this year and it may well help. Would I recommend these,? Hell yes, for the price they are great and if you use them properly they will do the job well. I think I did my lawn in one thrid the time it took using a rake.

DON'T BUY, they are dangerous!
Don't buy these! They are down right dangerous! I made the mistake you are thinking of making. They look like they are going to be easy use, they look like they are going to be the perfect way to spike the lawn. They are not, and what is more is is really easy to injure yourself using them. I am 57 but not unfit and have just come back from a walking holiday but I found it impossible and really hard on knees, ankles and hips. Definitely don't get these if you are elderly or unfit. The sandals malfunction like this...1. No matter how tight you manage to tighten the straps they slip off. Usually only one of the two straps, which trips you. 2. If you have any roots or rocks under your lawn they don't go in evenly and that trips you. 3. If the lawn is too wet they slip off the boots if the lawn is too dry it is really hard to get your foot out of the ground. 4. I had one spike a root underground and it would not come out until levered it away with my shovel. 5. If you have to walk on paths between lawns it is like walking on unstable platforms! The only thing I can say in their favour is they gave my wife a laugh watching me being tripped up and cursing!

Suprisingly Great!
So, I was a little reluctant to buy these. Having read quite a number of bad reviews over the straps I didn't want to be in a position where they were unusable. Before I do begin, I completely agree with everyone who's mentioned the straps. They are a royal pain in the derriere! Someone else suggested in one of the other reviews to get some of the roof rack straps from Wilko's and replace the ones you get with these, which I think is a fantastic suggestion, haven't done it myself but think I will do.Now, on with the actual purpose of these shoes. I had a new lawn laid in April, and if I'm honest I think we walked on it a bit too soon (we blame our two year old), left it longer than we were told but not long enough. As such, there were patches in the lawn that I thought I was going to lose, purely because they weren't as healthy and the ground beneath it was completely compacted, more than likely the same with lawns that have been around for a lot longer. Tried the garden fork method which did nothing to help.Strapped on the shoes and took very tiny steps up and down my lawn for the next hour, no doubt with the neighbours wondering what on earth I was doing. At times, the shoes got caught in the ground and required a bit more force to pull them out but in general they were easy to walk with. Be careful not to catch your heel when walking with them, it hurts! I paid particular attention to the compacted areas of the lawn, making sure that I'd covered every single part of the affected areas to loosen the soil beneath.Roll forward four weeks and my lawn looks fantastic. All the sections of the lawn that I thought were going to die have now recovered and look great, the whole lawn looks just as good as it did when it was first laid, if not better. They clearly do work, but I think you do have to make sure that you take small steps across the lawn instead of walking as you normally would....this ensures that all parts of the lawn have been aerated. In summary, whilst I was skeptical and the straps are a pain, they actually do work and I'm glad I spent the money just to look out and see the green lawn!!

The product quality is good, but it doesn't stay tight to your shoes for long!
In the beginning I though this is a great idea and should be ideally for me when I walk up and down the garden at least twice a day. However, be minded that it is not an easy product to just slip your shoes in - you have to very tightly close the straps. Even then - this product won't stay tight to your shoes for long! No matter how tight the straps are fitted - they are constantly falling off. At the end I crossed the straps and that helps a little. Also, this product will probably be better on a man's feet - as if you are woman (I am size 3-4) your shoes will easily slide off this large platform. My suggestion for improvement would be to make at least 2 different sizes of the sandal which should resolve the issue with slipping off the shoes.
