a lovely product
I am amazed at General's charcoal pencils. I have used series 557 medium, soft, & extra soft for many years, and they continue to produce an outstanding product. I am happy to report that my experience with their 558 white pencils is similar. they are sturdy, effective, and versatile. quite a bit of pressure may be applied before there is any crumbling. I may even use a battery powered sharpener, for a full one inch of taper, without any breakage! it is wonderful not having to sharpen every three or four minutes, by hand. honestly, the quality of General's pencils may be making me lazy...

Great pencils! Strong color!
I love these charcoal pencils to death! I always seem to run out of my white and black pencils so I bought a few packs of them and I was pleased to get everything delivered on time and just as expected. I have used lots of brands of charcoal pencils and general's is a great brand. For the price you are getting quality pencils and these pencils go on bold! One thing I love about these pencils is that they last me longer than my other pencils because they go on thick in one stroke. If you are new to art and want to try out new mediums I would suggest trying out charcoal pencils!

These white charcoal pencils are great
i love these white charcoal pencils for my finely detailed artwork. They are so great for adding highlights in pastel or charcoal and the matte texture makes them even great for highlights or covering mistakes in watercolor.

Great for woodworkers
I am a woodworker and wanted to be remove a mark on a project easily. Pencil marks often require sanding and gum erasers leave residue. This charcoal pencil worked perfectly. I was able to remove the marks by a chalkboard eraser or a soft cloth. Since it would take me a long time to use up 12 pencils, I shared them with woodworking friends. All have told me how useful they found the pencil to be. Pencil sharpens easily and gives a fine line/mark when you need it.

Just what i was looking for.
I had a difficult time finding something to mark dark colored wool felt for cutting. These work perfectly.

staple
I've used these pencils for over 50 years and I was so happy to find they still make them. I do b&w portraits and these pencils were one of my staples.

They are a great middle between regular chalk
I’m actually using these for my chalk art. They are a great middle between regular chalk, and chalk markers. Just beware if using for chalkboards, though it will erase for the most part, there will still be an imprint left behind. Still happy with them, and if I’m doing lettering and I’m unsure of how it will turn out I start with regular chalk and just go over it with these charcoal pencils to make it pop and last longer.

excellent for woodworking art projects
these are great for the workshop and woodworking art projects. the tips do break easily though so you'll sharpen a lot and go through a bunch of pencils depending on the size of the project.
