Which direction to insert batteries + up, or down?

The small end of the batteries go "into" the magnifier. The larger -- flat -- side stays on top.

I am sorry but don’t know what is triplet, it has two lenses that serve to see coins, stamps and similar items. They have replaceable batteries to extend their life. Easy to keep clean and closes very neatly to carry in pocket or in its own case.

In theory, the thickness of the same type of battery should be the same.
