Don't be afraid of installation. I'm a 64 year old female - if I can do it, you can too.
I bought this homemade chest for a song and felt it was perfect for a lift-top. As others mentioned, no screws or instructions, but brainstormed with a few friends and installed fairly easily without any help.Do not cut tie straps until you’re ready to install the lid. Do not remove current trunk hinges so you can open and close lid for accurate measurements.I installed sides first with just 3 screws (on each side), making sure top bracket was level with trunk top. Then using a t-square (with lid open), drew a line from the center hole of the top mount to the outside of trunk. I measured repeatedly for center hole for lid mount. And even measured the distance between the two center holes on each side. Be sure to account for overhang, mine is 1/4 inch. Then I marked inside of lid top for center hole and measured again.I removed old hinges and laid the lid bottom-up on the floor and drilled pilot just for the center hole, To easily find hole later, I marked with pink duct tape.Thenn I cut the tie straps, raised the lift-top hinges and placed lid on top of the hinges. I had to lie under lid to attach lid to just the center hole on each side. This was the only hard thing about this process.Carefully Lowered lid to make sure it was seated correctly. Then raised the lid and marked all lid holes with a white sharpie.I totally removed the lid (took screws out of center holes), flipped it over and drilled pilot holes for everything. Then I put it back on the hinges and screwed in everything. It lined up perfectly. I secured each side and all holes on top. I bought a multipack of carpentry screws for the various sizes for about $6.You have to use both hands to raise and lower racking is minimal, but very stable once it’s up.For less than $200, I have a beautiful and functional lift-top coffee table (toy box) for the grandbabies.Hope this helps. If I can do it, you can too.

Coffee table, tv tray.
Made a coffee table from butternut for my son for Christmas. He likes to eat dinner in front of the tv so I wanted something that would life the top to a tv tray height. This worked great. Since I designed the table around the lift it was not hard to install. Thanks Russ

Good and easy
Easy to install, not loud and easy to use after. Enough strength.

Works better than I expected
The hardware works extremely well. It would be nice to have some way to adjust the strength of the gas assist but that really isn't necessary, it would just be a bonus. Some people complained about the hardware racking to the side due to a lack of support crossbar, but I haven't experienced this at all. I would recommend these to anyone.

Great product but a little difficult to install
This is exactly what I need to build a lift top coffee table. The gas hydraulic mechanism is sturdy but smooth. I also wanted two separate devices so I didn't have to alter my build plans to accommodate the style where the hinges are connected by a cross bar. It stays open when it's open and stays closed when it's closed. The price is right for a quality product. It does not come with installation instructions, but it is easy enough to figure out. I used 1.5 inch #8 size screws (for those who don't know, #8 refers to the diameter of the screw, that's what size the holes in the hinge are. The only issue is that the mechanism is in the way and blocks the screw holes. I ended up not using each hole (seemed pretty sturdy even minus a couple screws) since I wasn't able to get in there with the drill. My husband suggested loosening the nut that holds the hydraulic mechanism in place to unblock the holes. I did not want to mess with it but it's an option.
