The ritual is worth it
TL;DR at bottomAs a fan of sharpening and maintaining knives, it was only a matter of time before I found a straight razor. After a couple shaves and a couple strops, with Christmas approaching fast, I decided it was a good gift and bought one as such. Later, I went into The Art Of Shaving in Disney Springs, on their last day of business, and bought a razor for (iirc) $65, original price $260. And I still use this most. But now that I have a good backup, I decided to see how far I can push this one and shaved my fully grown armpit hairs in the shower (made sure to dry the knife fully, to prevent wood cracking or metal rusting). Still, no problem at all. They came right off and one strop later, shaving my face was the same experience as always. The whole kit accompanies me on vacations, I usually leave state 2-3 times a year.I don't shave nowhere near every day, and in fact haven't shaved these last couple months. But the picture attached is after, probably, 20 shaves. So it'll be a long time before you run out. Some notes on stropping: Start with fabric side, which will get residual water off after shaving. It should only take a few strokes, each side of blade and strop. Really just remember flat strop, light pressure, the edge is the last to touch the strop and first to leave the strop. Put the spine down, first, then the edge. When lifting off, edge first then spine. And go slow!Pros: Excellent for priceHas all the essentials within the boundaries of not coming across as pretentiousCons: There are none FOR ME. But my dad, who I bought it for, isn't as much a fan of the ritual as I am. Cause remember, if you're doing this as intended, you're steaming your hair, lathering the cream, applying the cream with the brush, etc.. But for me, the act of cutting down the hairs is much faster, more comfortable and even enjoyable. Plus, instead of just washing hair down the sink, I wipe the blade on paper towels and toss them.

Expectations significantly exceeded
I’ve been researching having with a straight razor for some time. Decided on this kit as it had all necessary components, provided the necessary specifics on the blade type, had a steel hardness of 60, and was economically priced.Package arrived yesterday. The components were neatly packaged and all well presented and of good quality.I performed my first shave today. The blade was shave ready, and all performed perfectly. First shave completed with no nicks or cuts.I have not sharpened the blade yet, but will update with ease of maintenance.I am exceptionally pleased with my purchase and would certainly recommend this kit for someone looking to dip toes into the world of straight razor shaving.Very nicely done.

Gold dollar straight razor set.
Got this as a gift for my sons 16th birthday. Came in a nice box set. The brush is very nice and soft. The shave cream is nice. On to the razor. It’s sharp but will need to be honed. Not a big deal. Most of my other straight razor’s need it out of the box. The handle is a bit heavy for my liking but my son likes it. One of the complaints I’ve seen on it is that it rust. Well with proper care it shouldn’t. Just wipe it clean and allow to air dry after use. Then put little oil on the blade before storing. The strop is ok could be better but good for a beginner one. And at the price it’s a good beginning set.

Excellent value
This is my first straight razor, but I'm super impressed with this kit. I've been hmmming and hahing for a few years with the usual questions (will I filet my throat?).I did a lot of reading and research, saw some guys who tended to scoff at the brand, but until I decide I want to commit to this method, I'm not inclined to spend a few hundred bucks on just a blade. This looked like a good starter kit, and that turned out to be right. The razor itself is nice looking, and appears to be well made. It was ready to go right out of the box, unlike what I've read about some others. While I was somewhat expecting the accessories to be cheap crap, I was pleased to find what looks to be a very nice strop and soap brush.I took things very slowly the first few times, but after three or four shaves, I can say I have the hang of it and am building confidence. If you're a first timer, I definitely recommend watching some of the tutorial vids you'll find online.

Holds an edge very well
Works great. I've had it for over a year. Still use it. Holds an edge very well.

Don’t waste your time and money
Tried shaving at least 6 times with this blade, most painful experience. The blade comes dull and drags on all the hairs. So then I bought a 3000/8000 whetstone and honed it. Again, still dull. I honed and trialed another shave at least 3 times and still painful. So I used my old Harry’s razor and then let my hair grow out for 2 days. I tried it one more time, and it was AGAIN dull despite honing and stropping, the photo is the hairs that were shaved with my Harry’s razor AFTER I tried shaving with this thing. So not only did I waste time trying to sharpen a blade that should have arrived sharpened and ready to use, I wasted money also buying a whetstone. Avoid this product.

Feel like I'm in an Al Capone movie
Just for fun , I stroped it for 10 mins or so before using it 1st time , NO Problems , smoother than my safety razor ( being extra cautious , had never used a straight razor b4 ) , As I said , a bunch of fun . I enjoy the lather process , had never experienced that b4 . Hope I'll be able to order more cans ( lather ) at a good price. So try it , hope u like it ( I've read complaints it doesn't come sharp enough out of the box , as stated , I spent a few minutes stropping first , tip I found , KEEP blade dry & dab w/ mineral oil when storing ) Have fun
