I used for grafting persimmons. I've never grafted before but had a 95% success rate do only to questionable scion on the 5%. Recommended by one of the most respected pawpaw and persimmon growers in the US Jerry Lehman. I could use a knife but this makes a perfect cut with ease

Nice product, the blades need some sharpening especially after you have done a few grafts with it. I would recommend a hand held sharpener as well so you can sharpen as you go in the field.

Does an excellent job. Even better than the more expensive ones.

Not for knotty, tough trees
Didn't work. As a newbie grafter, I tried on 17 apple and 10 pear grafts. Maybe got two useable grafts.Problems:1) On the apple (rootstock and scion) trees, the tool wasn't powerful enough to make clean cuts. Knotty buds too close together. When I got a OK cut, the resulting "V" opening was too big and too close to a (knotty) bud to close successfully using grafting tape. Very frustrating.2) On pears, the tool either struggled with the larger rootstocks/scions, resulting in a "smashed" cut or it made an unusable, uneven cut on the smaller stock. It worked nicely when I practiced on mulberry branches, so it might work on some trees. The apple stock I got was very tough; I could not cut with a grafting knife. Ended up using hand pruners (sic) to make diagonal cut grafts. Luckily, apples are famously forgiving and the grafts seem to be taking.Because the pear rootstock shipping was delayed this year, I'm pass the 30-day Amazon Return Policy (lame!), so I'll try to use it again on other trees and report back. In the meanwhile, I'd say this tool's only chance of working is on soft trees with well-spaced buds. In other words, keep looking!
