Leaks - no more
A few months ago I purchased this unit hoping my frustration with cheaply made leaky made sprayers would end. I ordered it last August in for use the next winter and spring when I work clearing brush on my farm/ranch. Given my experience with a wide range of brands and types of sprayers I didn't fill with $100 of tree stump spray right off. I looked it over and was pleased with the appearance and feel. It seemed to be well made. I filled it with water and sat it on the concrete approach behind my shop. Over the days and weeks it leaked a few ounces from the nozzle, but considering my experience with the many others, I decided to live with it. I filled it with diesel and Remedy at a cost of over $100 for basal and stump spray. I worked that day and only sprayed a few stumps, and that night sat the sprayer in my shop. Two days later when I went to get the sprayer, a puddle over two feet wide had the concrete floor soaked where the chemical had dripped from the nozzle. I sat the sprayer in a 5 gallon bucket and put in the truck and went to work completely disgusted that this one turned out like the others. Within a week not only the leaking valve continued leaking, I have to prop it up over the sprayer or it will syphon, the pump leaked as well. Now when I use it I first have to pour the chemical standing in the mouth of the canister into another container to avoid wasting more chemical. Overall it works about as well as the $10 plastic one from Ace, it is much heavier to lug around though. Now I don't even haul it back to the shop. I just leave sitting on a stump in hopes of using some of what leaks out.UPDATEI received a call from Amanda at Smith Sprayers, and she said they read my review and wanted the opportunity to address the problem. I explained the issue and she, along with other staff reviewed the specs on various sprayers and intended use. She said the S103E isn't meant for flammables (the mix is herbicide with diesel). She said I needed the S103EX. The X denotes the unit has Viton® Extreme™ seals throughout the pump and shut-off for maximum resistance to water- and solvent-based chemicals, solvents, acetone, and oils. She said they would send replacement parts at no cost.A few days later I received a new pump, pop-off, valve handle, and wand. I expected a bag with seals etc that would have replace. They definitely went the extra mile to make it right. I appreciate the service and the effort. I am responsible to some extent, perhaps most, due to the fact I purchased the wrong unit for the job. I thought I had selected the right one by the choosing a unit for solvents, but flammable is the key word.Bottom line: Smith Sprayers are well made and the company stands behind their product and supports the customer (even when the customer bought the wrong item).

An unfortunate disappointment
Worked good for the first hour... nozzle clogged and when I took it apart to find out why the O-rings were over tightened and pieces of the O-ring were clogging the nozzle. Additionally for some reason the trigger stopped working as well… I disassembled it and added silicone grease and it started working properly again. The picture attached shows that after I pumped up the cylinder the tip just kept on leaking… I had to carry a bucket with me to put the tip into it so that I wouldn’t damage the rest of the job.I did not expect it to perform this way given the other reviews. I do not know if this was an assembly issue or why it slowly stopped functioning... but it was very upsetting.

OK first of this this is pretty big, and hell a heavy
OK first of this this is pretty big, and hell a heavy. WAY bigger than I thought. It almost needs its own little dolly. I used the straps that came with it to hang it off my shoulder. Maybe only fill it half way if your not a strong person. I used it for weeds and holy crap its like a crop duster!!!! Use a mask for sure or you will inhale a lot on a windy day. I have a few sprayers. Cheap harbor crap back pack. Then I got a 60 dollar one from the concrete supply house. It works great but the tip always clogs when I store it. Now THIS one has a tip that is near impossible to clog from the looks of it. THIS is super high quality , which is the most important thing to me. I will have it until I am a old man for sure. When your done, make sure to use the valve on the tank to let out the left over air or it will leak from the tip while its sitting there.

fitting failed
I bought this and was excited to put it to work, when I was attaching the hose to the tank the fitting from the tank broke at the threads, I have attached a lot of hoses in my life so I know that it was not cross threaded. It is a inconvenience that I now have to take the broke tip out of the hose and replace the fitting.

A well crafted pump action sprayer with many potential uses!
The media could not be loaded. After enduring several close calls with fires getting out of control on our pine forest land in Louisiana, the Smith Performance Sprayer S103E 3.5 Gallon sprayer seemed a good choice for protecting an area from flying ash.The 3.5 gallon sprayer came double boxed with all the parts required to fully assemble. As an added bonus, an extra set of gaskets were also included. I was able to put the entire pump action sprayer together in less than 5 minutes and then fill it half way with water to test it out. Also included are straps that I was able to attach to the tank and carry on my back. You can use almost any strap that has less than a 3/8” hook on the end. I plan on using a cushioned strap when we carry this tank to our Longleaf forest land. The two nozzles that are included are meant for fan spraying rather than hitting a specific target. The spot welding craftsmanship and full metal construction of the sprayer and pump assembly are very impressive to see in person.I attached several photos and a video with this review to help you appreciate the size of this product. We were able to use this sprayer to simply apply water on nearby bushes and trees to prevent fly ash fires while burning in a 55 gallon steel drum. The effortless pump only requires a few pushes to get a steady stream of water going. While this is contradictory to the stated purpose of this sprayer, the S103E 3.5 gallon pump sprayer was excellent at this task!

This has paid for itself ten times over.
This is a great sprayer. I use it for sealing patios. I’ve made a lot of money with it. You have to clean it well and clean it often. It is tough to find replacement seals for though.

Stopped working after less than an hour
I looked around quite a bit for a reasonably priced sprayer that could handle solvent based sealants for my concrete. Unfortunately after less than an hour of use I had to give up as it stopped spraying anything.i checked the nozzle and verified pressure and sealer and nothing. I am going to try to take it apart to see if the orings are destroyed or why it won't go but at this point, I'm just frustrated and will have to look around some more.
