Beans are sold as large. They are NOT but its not a big deal.
If you're going to use beans as a thickener then they will do. Otherwise they are very small i wouldn't classify them as large . They are cheap obviously because of their size.one month later ::maybe the beans are small but they are delicious. it means that you can put more into your mouth than if they were large. that is not a big deal. i actually bought another box.

Large Fava beans
This product is as good as dry beans can be. Someone mentioned that they are not as large as they expected. Well, they are called large because there is also a small variety . As far as size, I'm satisfied because if they were unnaturally large I would suspect them to be pumped up with chemicals. Those who complain about having hard time cooking... beans need to be soaked in water , best overnight to re hydrate. Than cooked on slow for about an hour. If you cook on high, most of them will fall apart .I eat them with skinThey are an excellent snack

With skins. Eat them or dont, either way is fine. Peels easy if choose to remove after cooking
These have the skins still on. You dont need to shuck them as the skins are edible. But everyone has their preference and it can be a regional or cultural thing. If you want to avoid peeling and dont want the skins, then go with their pre peeled version. These are large fava beans, and so the skins will usually be tough (but still edible).I rapidly boiled the beans for a few minutes then let sit for an hour or so. I noticed they were softening up rather quickly. I then proceeded to drain and munch on a few WITH skins on. I figured with more cooking, eating the skins might be doable. But I decided to go ahead and peel what I had.It doesnt take much to peel them. The bean pretty much pops out of the skin easily. Just a small added chore.Taste is new to me. Though it had a slight fermented aroma and slightly potato like. More neutral in taste than overly flavorful. I plan to cook up a bag, peel them (but probably keep skins on), run through blender and make a fava bean hummus.I eat all sorts of beans but hadnt had fava beans that I can recall. Not dried anyway. I basically followed the directions for a recipe on the bag (not entirely but close) and overall I thought it tasted pretty good.BTW, the recipe indicated to peel the beans (after cooking) but before adding the other ingredients. The basic cooking method does not indicate peeling after cooking. So you do you.I think cooking it longer would be better as my beans still had a bit of firmness. Not outside the norm when dealing with dried beans. Just takes awhile to get them rehydrated. Probably best to soak overnight.I bought these on sale, and usually sale items have a shorter "best by" date, not that I really care since food doenst expire on that date. It is simply a guarantee of freshness. However, I was still pleased that these are dated for nearly 5 years out (if i recall correctly).Bags were in good conditions (box not so much). Adding them to my long term storage (main reason why I bought a case--wanted to add variety to my preps).

Very Large and a bit tough!
I was so happy to finally get this item. It was delivered in a timely manner. Immediately I soaked 2 bags overnight. I chose NOT to peel the beans as that is NOT what I am accustomed to. SO....I ended up pressure cooking the beans covered with 2" of water over the top of the beans for 2-1/2 hours on high pressure. In the end, I ended up pureeing them after cooling the beans in my food processor, adding olive oil, garlic, lemon and salt. It was rather tasty. I pureed them a good LONG time till very smooth and making the dry, tough skins not so bad after all. This will be served with pita bread, sweet onions, additional lemon juice, Tahini Sauce, black olives, and cucumbers. With all that, how can it be bad? The reason for the 3 stars is the amount of labor it took...but nostalgia of my trip to Egypt years ago prevailed...I just simply could not peel the beans after soaking ....Honestly, I could not wait to get these cooking.Bon Appetit...but be prepared to put in a lot of effort if you wish to utilize the skins as well.
