Glad I took a chance on this, even after reading some negative reviews. No it's not quality furniture. If that's what you want, go someplace else and pay close to $1,000 and in some cases quite a bit more than that. But for the price it's very nice. Did not get or want the illuminated globe. It has raised areas for mountains. The stain is typical dark red/brown cherry stain. Globe was not damaged, packed in its own box within the shipping box. No scratches on anything. Easy to put together.

This is a beautiful product overall. Two of the separated 'leg' pieces came a bit bent but after forcibly being screwed in, it came together - seemingly with no overall problems. It is a bit weird that the globe itself does not rotate in every direction - 360 degrees. it will rotate 180, but to rotate it the other way you would have to flip it on its side which does not work, since the clips and groves in which they go in do not align. Not a HUGE problem for a dedicated map and globe lover as my pops just picks the whole thing up right out of the stand but still, it would be far more practical to have it rotate in every direction and with a few modifications I was able to make that happen.

The only flaw was a small chip off the veneer of the pedestal - revealing the wood underneath. I black permanent marker made that disappear, and it is impossible to notice. Otherwise, a great globe, great value, and great service.
