Adjustable to what? It tells you that there is or isn't power before you shove your fingers in it. that is all it does and it is a life saver. When a gfi blows it also will let you test which outlets are effected.

Q: Is normal for the tester to alarm one inch away from a covered light switch? Also echo device or WiFi nodes ?

You need to touch the tester to the switch. And, the tester needs 60 volts to set off the alarm, so a low voltage switch will not set it off. As for WiFi, it doesn't have enough voltage, so the tester will not recognize a "hot" wifi connection. Don't have an echo device so cannot answer that, although common sense would say no, as it is probably a low voltage device.

Q: Some of the christmas led bulbs are not glowing so needed to check if the voltage is passing through the wire. can i buy this to check or nonuseful?

Yes. That's one of the things I used it for and it does the job. I was able to rule out the electric wires as a source of the problem. It will not identify the culprit for the light outage which is probably one of the bulbs or sockets.

Q: Do I have to keep the button pressed to use it or once it's on it stays on till I turn it off.

The button is for a light on the unit, press and hold and the light is on. The unit does not have on off switch. It will light red/orange when it detects current
