Old device, new year.
I purchased this in 2024 specifically for its IDE functionality, and it worked perfectly. I used it to help a friend recover their valuable data, and they were thrilled with the results. The device was easy to use and did exactly what it promised. It's a reliable tool for anyone needing to access or retrieve data from older drives. Definitely worth the investment from outdated technology!

Highly recommended for its functionality and ease of use.
I recently bought the AGPTEK® SATA/PATA/IDE Drive to USB 2.0 Adapter Converter Cable, and it works flawlessly. The adapter is straightforward to use, allowing me to connect various hard drives and SSDs to my computer via USB. It supports both SATA and IDE drives, which is incredibly versatile for data transfers or accessing old drives. The build quality is solid, and the connection is stable, ensuring reliable performance. It’s a practical tool for anyone needing to bridge different types of drives with modern USB interfaces.

Takes Patience
Like most people, I too was frustrated with this device when trying to read an old IDE drive. I set the drive jumpers to "Master", plugged it in to power (heard the drive spin up), then connected the USB device. Nothing.I kept trying different things (e.g., changing the order I did things, drive jumper settings, etc.) all with no success. At one point, the drive heads kept slamming inside the HDD, and I powered it down. Then I resorted to the internet and found nothing useful. Feeling like I wasted my money, I went back and read a review from a previous purchaser. He stated that he had problems too at first until he rebooted his computer. So I restarted mine. At first there was nothing. Then I plugged the USB adapter back into my computer and I heard a "ding". I searched my computer for the new drive and nothing appeared. I unplugged the device and I heard the ding again, and I saw an icon in my tray disappear. Knowing it was seeing the drive I plugged it back in and heard the ding again. Using my old skills, I typed the "diskmgmt.msc" into the search bar. The drive was listed, but this drive had been wiped, so it had no data. Using the program, I was able to format the drive and put it into service.Even though the device is cheaply made, and has poor instructions, it is a functional unit for my intended use. It takes a user a little patience and not giving up too quickly in order to get it to work. My guess is that it will be even simpler to use on the SATA drives.Hope this helps.

Do not buy this!
Virtually no technical support, absolutely no drivers available anywhere. When I first installed it, Windows 7, appeared to be installing drivers. But it never, ever finds this device connected to an external IDE drive. Power down, restart computer, no drivers load, and it does not appear on any list of drives. All I have to compare with his windows XP, same results. There are no drivers for this device, and you can search the Internet for ever and you will never find anything that looks like technical support from the manufacturer. I think Amazon should be liable for selling junk that has no one to stand behind it. I bought a number of them, because I have lots of old IDE drives. Now I have a number of boxes with junk in them, and a handful of IDE drives. I can't access. Going to the manufacturer's website should by all reasonable thoughts lead me to a download page where I would find drivers for one of their devices, but the manufacturer is a joke, it's their webpage is a joke, and buying anything that does not have any form of customer support is an even bigger joke. The joke's on me :-( and it's on anyone else who spends a nickel for this useless piece of junk. Do not spend your money on it. It seems like a nice way to be able to use older IDE drives, but quite simply, I'm not willing to upgrade my Windows to try and find out if that would help. I can explain that it will work with Linux puppy Distro's, but I can say with great certainty that it does not work with Windows 7. Save your money, there are other devices that can do the job more reliably that deserve your money

An excellent device for transfering files from an old drive to a new one
I got this for a couple of drives that were IDE and needed to ensure stuff on them was pulled off as far as audio work and whatever else may have been on them after retiring an old Windows XP box last year. This will do SATA as well, and in a pinch, with an adapter will do M.2 form factor drives as needed. That is, get the adapter that goes from SATA/NVMe M.2 to SATA 2.5".This will also work with the larger 3.5" drives and adds a power supply to power them with a Molex connector or SATA power connector, depending on IDE or SATA, thus it's rather versatile.Worked well on the 2, or 3 IDE drives I had to go through and seems decently made.
