St James of London Tonka & Tobacco Flower Post Shave Gel, 3.4oz

If you want a quality, this is a great brand.

Years ago I had a shave gel that I loved and used all the time. For whatever reason they stopped making it. I saw this, I thought I'd give it a try. If I'm being honest, I wasn't familiar with the brand, but from what I gather, they seem up to par. The bottle is some what surprising to me. I would have expected a gel to be in a squeeze bottle or something similar - this is in a pump bottle (see the picture). In terms of scent, I like it. It's not too powerful and I can't see it lasting all day like some after shaves can. Also, unlike some traditional scents, you don't smell like a 90 year old. The texture is on the liquid side of a gel. You don't need much to cover your skin either. It feels soft afterwards too, not crisp and dry like an alcohol based after shave. Overall, I like it and am pleased.

The packaging and scent of this product feels very old world British. Husband loves it. It makes him feel like he's the Earl of Grantham on Downton Abbey. Very classy and I love the old fashioned glass bottle and the pleasant aroma. The only critique I have is that he'll be using this a lot and the bottle looks a little on the small side, so it'll be used up quickly. The price is a little high for this sort of product but it's excellent quality.

While I love St James products and especially aftershave gels, the scent is just isn't there on this. It smells more sweet and I was expecting a more masculine scent. But, the performance is top-shelf. St James always delivers the goods--will buy again but different scent, which is unfortunate, as I spent a lot of time researching shaving scents and complimentary aftershave scents for a "layering effect."

I am personally delighted with this. The scent is unique and somewhat hard to describe. Without a doubt, it has a vintage, "Historical" aroma but not what one would think of with respect to a senior trying to smell young again with something from the 40's but a more traditional scent of ever earlier days. A classy pirate comes to mind or a revolutionary soldier, perhaps. Either way is is wonderful.It feels incredible as well, and there is an outstanding balance of cooling, enjoyment, and aroma. I highly recommend it either for self-use or as a gift.

What a wonderful, fresh, delicious scent! I love the gel vs splash on, it stays on the skin and cools it longer, making for a wonderful shave. My husband asked me if there were more items in this line, he really enjoyed it and wants more. This make for perfect direct gift giving, beautifully boxed and ready to go. The bottle is heavy glass and makes the perfect package. Highly and excitedly recommended.

Overall, the presentation and quality of this St. James of London Tonka & Tobacco Flower Post Shave Gel is amazing. The box plus the glass bottle provides a very traditional yet high-quality feel. If you haven't smelt tonka before then this might be an interesting thing to get used to at first but over time you will love it. The gel itself is highly absorbant with more of a liquid consistency. I do notice a slight stickiness after applying the product but that goes away pretty quickly.Would highly recommend to those who enjoy Tonka and Tobacco Flower scents.
