The oats are uniform in size and have a beautiful, natural appearance. When cooked, they offer a delightful chewy texture, which is a pleasant departure from the often mushy texture of rolled oats.**Flavor:** These steel-cut oats have a wonderfully nutty and wholesome flavor. They are less processed than other types of oats, which seems to enhance their natural, earthy taste. This makes them an excellent canvas for a variety of toppings and mix-ins.**Nutritional Value:** Packed with fiber and protein, these oats are a filling and nutritious choice for breakfast. They provide sustained energy throughout the morning, which is perfect for those with active lifestyles or anyone looking for a fulfilling start to their day.**Cooking Time:** Steel-cut oats generally take longer to cook than rolled or instant oats. However, I found that the cooking process for Bob's Red Mill is straightforward and worth the extra time. Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats: Breakfast for the Earnestly Chewful
As someone perpetually wary of overly processed breakfast cereals promising eternal youth or unending energy, Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats felt refreshingly honest—like an oatmeal brand that firmly believes breakfast should involve actual chewing.Initially, I was skeptical about devoting an absurd amount of morning real estate—25 minutes—to cook oats. Could a bowl of oats possibly deserve such devotion? Well, these oats are unabashedly gritty, hearty, and sturdy enough to build character, or at least jaw strength. They're the kind of oats that laugh politely at your instant oatmeal packets and their flimsy excuses for texture.Flavor-wise, Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats present an impressively authentic "farm-to-bowl" aesthetic. They're pleasantly nutty, reassuringly wholesome, and taste precisely like something your great-grandparents ate unironically.Nutritionally, these oats outshine their sugary, cartoon-endorsed rivals by miles, proudly parading their fiber and protein content while silently judging your past breakfast choices.Ultimately, Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats deliver a lovingly earnest experience that says, "I take breakfast seriously—and you should too." Honestly, after eating these, I kind of do.

The Gold Standard for Steel Cut Oats. Hands-Free Instant Pot Prep Method Friendly
This review is for Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats, 24-ounce (Pack of 4). I purchased this in my search for a replacement for my other brand of "cracked n' toasted" oats that a big box store was no longer carrying. The oats come in a branded resealable bag emblazoned with a lot of messaging on the front, including "an employee-owned company", "the 100% whole grain award winning cereal", and "the Golden Spurtle". What I especially liked about this bag is that there are a few transparent sections near the bottom that lets you see the actual steel cut oats inside. Looking inside the bag, the oats appear to be of high quality and there is minimal/no? sediment. The back side of the bag includes your standard Nutrition Facts, a brief blurb about the Golden Spurtle, and a couple of preparation methods (stovetop and traditional slow cooker).Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats are true steel cut oats that have that fantastic bite, texture, and inherent dietary benefits you would expect from steel cut oats. I performed a quick comparison of rolled, "cracked n' toasted", and Bob's steel cut oats using Nutrition Facts (normalized for serving size) and was surprised to find that Bob's steel cut oats provide almost double the calories, total fat, total carbohydrates, dietary fiber, total sugars, and proteins vs. an equivalent amount of rolled oats. I believe much of that is due to steel cut oats being almost 4x denser/compact than rolled oats with a side benefit of providing a longer sensation of being full.My go-to prep method for steel cut oats is to add 1 cup water with 1/3 cup steel cut oats (3:1 ratio) to an Instant Pot, set it for five minutes high pressure on manual, and then natural release. Total hands-free cooking time from pressing the button to when the float valve drops is 15-20 minutes. Afterwards you can spice it up with a sprinkle of matcha, cookie crumbs (secret weakness), nuts, or even cereal (!). The result is a great bowl of steel cut oatmeal with a slight nutty flavor and almost "Q" texture to it that is an improvement over my previous go-to brand.Overall, I would recommend Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats as the gold standard for steel cut oats. They are high quality and are easy to use for a delicious bowl of oatmeal.

Best steel cut oatmeal at a great price.
This is the only oatmeal I buy. I didn't eat oatmeal my entire life till I was introduced to Red Mill Steel Cut oatmeal. I love the nutty consistency and the flavor. They are hard to find in the grocery stores near me. I've tried Quaker and another brand and they have no flavor, at all!Amazon is a reliable source for this and Red Mill Muesli which is also a delicious cereal.
