A little intimidating
Caught a chipmunk right away. I know they are cute but not so cute when in your siding.

It’s strong but doesn’t work
Ok so sad story, i placed it on the ground near the rat movement and i also have some wild bunnies that comes by sometimes, poor bunny hit the trap and got passed poor thing. But for a rat it doesn’t work, i know it was roof rats, the small ones got disarmed but didn’t catch, this one does matter how well its placed the bait . Still the trap doesn’t move when rat step on it, i even polished the little rod that holds on the tray and never catches.

problem with them not being sensitive enough, or perhaps too sensitive
I bought four of these a looong time ago, over a decade I think. I gave two away because they were so effective, I eliminated the problem, and they still looked and worked like new. Well, one of my two remaining finally broke, and the other looked like it was on its last legs, so I threw it out and bought two new replacements for my new problem. The new ones are meh.I have set one six times. Three times it caught a rat (with such force it tossed the rat and trap about a foot away), and three times the peanut butter bait was licked clean (see picture) with the trap still set.Their instructions on the product page on Amazon say "The trap is still set and bait is gone - Try to use a solid type of bait and tie up this bait using threads to pedal. There are two small holes for this purpose. Then rat must put much more effort to acquire the bait and trap will be activated." (can't tie peanut butter down). But in the instruction sheet that comes with the package it says "the sensitivity of the trap depends on how deep the arm bar is inserted into the slot. The deeper it is inserted the less sensitive the tap and vice versa." (so that I did do).On the old one, I always inserted to the bend. So I made sure now, twice, that the arm is only deep enough to set and not pushed through to where the bend in the bar is. No luck. Still the trap does not go off.I am not sure what they changed, but it is a definite change. I think the spring is stronger as the traps bend more now after each use. I will try setting them with the arm further in anyway, like I did with the old ones, and perhaps oiling the spring and the plate to make sure both move easily.I am disappointed these are so different from the old model. The old ones were great -- worked virtually every time. I do not remember them going off and not catching anything, or staying set but with bait gone and not catching. I switched to the metal ones as I had used the wooden ones and they became noticeably less effective very fast -- I thought they might smell of rat guts whereas these metal ones can be rinsed off effectively. They stopped killing the rats and just maiming them or catching them by a tail (I lost several traps as the trap and rat escaped somewhere) - drowning the trap and rat was a chore, and so inhumane and personal, and I really liked that these always immediately killed the rat humanely. I thought the teeth on the trap was a great idea - no rat ever slipped out.But the current model is not as effective due to the problems above.Perhaps they are too sensitive instead, and my rats set them off when approaching and then can eat the peanut butter at their leisure. While they eat the bait entirely (looks like they licked the plate clean) it always looks like the trap did not move an inch; when they go off with the rat in them, they are thrown a foot away (and the old ones did not do that).I have now set it with the bar all the way in to the bend, like I used to, and will see if making it less sensitive is the key. Then I will try to oil the plate to make sure it moves more easily. Then I may think about going back to the wooden ones. Oh, and they seem to bend easily, as others have stated, but this does not seem to affect their utility.Update - used a different smaller trap last night and caught a baby rat. So perhaps the lack of setting off these traps was due to the fact that I had killed the three big ones and now just have babies that are too light to set it off. But, that said, the plastic ones that you have a lever to press to set (either by hand or foot) and the same lever releases, are much easier to use, especially when these are so strong so hard to set well. The moral to this update is to be sure to use the right size/strength trap for the animal; it is not one size fits all.

Great design! Update 6/17
I caught a rat within 24 hours of setting the traps. Due to the innovative jagged teeth on the capture end of the trap, the rat, who might have escaped its doom with the typical wooden style snap trap, could not escape. I don't think most people have any idea how strong a rat can be when it wants to escape something. I loved the fact I could tie my bait ( a whole walnut that I drilled through) to the pedal, this was the cause of my success I think. My local rats are used to scavenging the walnut orchards that surround my home, and normally never have invaded my house. However I made the mistake of leaving a bag of walnuts in the shell sitting out when I went on a two month vacation. Once they got in and feasted , they started looking for other munchies of course. I also liked the screw holes which allowed me to fasten the trap to a piece of 2x6 lumber, which makes it so the rat cant go very far in its trapped condition and makes it so my hands don't have to go near the rat when I emptied the trap. I just hosed the whole thing off and left it in the sun to dry. Great design and made in the USA! The trap is good , although I felt somewhat overpriced. I was disappointed to learn that the seller lowered the price I paid by $4 only a couple of days after I received the traps. Update 6/17/19 . Want to let others know that the seller "Nexxen" refunded me $4. on the price I paid. Great customer service! I wanted to update my seller review too but didn't see a place to edit my original seller review. Thank you Nexxen! The traps are holding up well.

It Works
Update: Even though I was apprehensive about the durability of this trap it has successfully caught several huge rats. This trap is 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" and you can see in the photo how big the rat is compared to the trap. So even though it appears flimsy it does work and is still working!Original:If the metal used in this trap was any thinner it would be classified as aluminum foil. The traps were warped coming out of the box as others have noted. But easy to bend straight with your hands. On one of them the bait platform was someone stuck because the metal tang holding it had not been bent up to a 90 deg angle but that was easy to fix by bending it up with my little pinky finger. I think that if I screw the trap on to some 3/8 inch plywood to give it some rigidity then it might have some usefulness. Not sure about the durability yet but do not have high hopes. I would gladly have paid more for a decent product.
