Extremely well made and very sharp !
Was on the fence for a long time about this lens. My main lens is a Nikon 600mm with a 1.4 TC attached. I wanted a zoom so I could stop zooming with my feet. I read many good & bad reviews and for the price was conflicted. Its a hard lens to find & i did not want to buy a beat up used lens or an abused rental lens. As soon as the lens arrived I did the Firmware update, did some testing , so far so good . Then for some real world testing, Birds were not plentiful, So I resorted to the old standby Burrowing Owls, Focus was smooth, crisp and fast. zoom ring was a slick half turn and using the built in TC was a joy. I believe I got a good copy, am very happy and looking forward to many years of shooting.Joe SWF

This is a great lens. Optically, this is near perfection.
I have used this lens for the last 3 months on my d850 and have never been happier. It's super sharp and super fast. The only complaint I have is on the lens cap. It comes with a slip-on fabric-like lens cap with velcro. I have wished for a regular plastic snap-on kind at least a 100 times so far. It's hard, frustrating and annoying to use. In addition, I left the lens resting on the lens cap on my yoga mat for a day and it left black disc of residue on the mat! I never thought Nikon would let this happen to one of their flagship lenses.
