Inexpensive yet potentially life saving addition to a first aid kit
It might be my imagination but over more years than I like to remember tourniquets seem to have gone out of fashion and come back in. There was a time when tourniquets were deemed to be the work of the devil, perhaps because it is so easy to misuse one. Or perhaps because in later life my first aid refreshers were civilian rather than military. There are times when pressure points and elevation just do not stop bleeding. Then one needs a tourniquet, either purpose designed like this one from Qeeroyo or improvised from a triangular bandage or even a length of webbing. Considerations are the width of the tourniquet, at least 4cm, and the length of time it is left in place before it should be released. Current best practice says two hours although when I was first taught about tourniquet use the drill was to temporarily relax it every twenty minutes. Also writing "T" and time of application on the casualty's forehead, ideally in red.I tried this tourniquet on my thigh, the recommended (if possible) three inches above the joint and it was simple to put on and even simpler to wind up the handle which catches in a Velcro tab. This is prominently marked "Time" but I would still use the forehead T. This is a very inexpensive addition to a first aid kit and it could literally save somebody's life.Just one observation, no instructions came with the tourniquet. This should be rectified. Yes it can be life saving, but it can also cause serious damage.

great to have in a first aid kit
Great price, haven't used it yet, and hope we don't need to, but its reassuring to have in the first aid kit.We tested it (without bleeding) but twisting the bar makes a good barrier and im confident it would stop wound bleeding if needed. An essential piece of kit now.
