Baldwin Hardware 5399.003.G Conversion Kit

The kit was easy to install and works much better than the old. Its smooth and more reliable.The old lever would hang up and half the time would not engage when the door was closed.The replacement fixed all of that. Soo much better worth the cost.

The thumb latch broke so we could no longer enter through our front door. We barely use the front door so we were surprised our Baldwin lock didn't last longer. However after taking the door handle apart to install the new parts we discovered a mud wasp had gotten inside at some point in time and filled all the works with mud. That was probably the cause of the thumb latch breaking. The new parts are installed and everything works like new. Hopefully the wasps will keep out.

Had a cracked thumb level adapter (One of the screws had nothing to grab). The 'G' in the kit id is for Knob. Make sure to order the correct kit as there are several. Kit had everything needed. I suggest using some grease or liquid soap when attaching the lower post part, mine snapped as it needed a wrench to encourage it, luckily I saved the old one.

Installed the kit in early December 2024. It failed on April 3,2025.

First - while I had to return my initially ordered “conversion kit” the help I got from Baldwin Lock in identifying the correct kit and the responses from Amazon and the actual kit vendor were excellent!My older Baldwin Lockset failed during some very cold weather when the exterior thumblever suddenly flopped down uselessly and no longer unlocked my door latch. Upon disassembly I found the small piece of potmetal that the thumblever engaged to turn the spindle had broken. I’m guessing this is a common issue that the “conversion kits” are designed to remedy. I chose a kit based on a photo that showed an exterior faceplate identical to mine (but did not show an interior faceplate!). Turned out I have what is called an emergency egress unit which links the deadbolt and latch in ways that allow the door to be opened from inside with a single turn of handle. Some units are not designed this way and require separate handles/knobs to disengage latch and deadbolt from inside. The difference in the unit I originally ordered and the one I needed was only in last letter of model number 5399.003 “N” vs5399.003 “G” — some numbers refer to style and others to finish. Honestly there are a LOT of variations. Might be best to take photos and seek vendor or manufacturer advice before ordering wrong kit as I did. Good news is once you have right kit - fixing problem isn’t difficult.

After many years of poor performance the latch on my 30 year old lockset failed. I was very happy to see that Baldwin had corrected the problem and provides a kit to repair the latch. The kit was easy to install and the lockset is like new again!

My thumb opener was broken on my door handle and this kit was an easy and simple replacement. Saved me $200 because I didn't have to buy a new handle. Works great.

Had an issue with a door thumblatch and this was the perfect repair kit.Installation instructions cover multiple door handle styles so they're a bit confusing, but take your time and you'll be fine.
