Amazing tool if you can stomach the expense
So I tried a whole host of options before splashing out on this: the wolfcraft dowel master, kreg pocket hole jig, a biscuit joiner. At the end of the day, all of them offer the same ability to join wood, but none of them do it with the ease and speed of the domino. It's also a very strong joint - you'd have to use two or three dowels to get the equivalent strength of a hardwood domino dowel, but with each additional normal round dowel you add you increase the risk of misalignment. With the domino, it's as easy as marking a line on both pieces and making the plunge cut.The machine is made very well - it's precision engineered, smooth but sturdy. Hooking up a shop vac to the hose outlet completely eliminates dust & chips. The joins are repeatable and very precise. If there was any cheaper alternative out there, I would have definitely considered it as the cost is huge, however if you move past the dent in your wallet, this machine is just a dream to use.The power cord is detachable, which is actually really handy to quickly and easily disconnect. Just be aware that it only comes with a 5mm cutter. You'll need to purchase the other cutters (6, 8, 10) to be able to use those domino sizes.

Excellent tool but just been rough handled somewhere on its journey
It's an excellent tool and extremely versatile. It seems expensive but the amount of time it can save pays for itself in no time. Excellent quality as the majority of festool tools are.The poor rating is because the one I ordered arrived broken. The cutter depth adjuster lever was broken off and the actuall cutter that should come with the tool was missing.

Happy happy happy
I was like a kid at Christmas waiting for this to arrive but you know when you were a kid and get a duff toy that’s not what you thought it would be like. I was thinking festool is quality when I opened the box the base of the tool was scratched up and the depth switch would only work on 2 settings and when you tried to switch it on it sparks then you quickly get on the phone to the supplier who’s rating isn’t the best buts that’s where I was surprised they quickly got the tool returned to them and I received a new one in 3 days which has had a battering in the last two months building anything from rad covers to fitted shelving and wardrobes only time will tell, so far well pleased with my purchase and that’s a jock saying that about a festool tool that’s the price of a second hand car

Three Stars
Slightly scuffed piece. The bottom plate has a dent on it. And, the depth stop adjustment is very stiff.

If you make cabinets, you need this machine.
I'm a cabinet maker. This is as close to an essential tool, creating fast, accurate and repeatable dowel joints all day long. Easy to use and with the various bit sizes from 4mm to 10mm pretty much covers most jointing requirements from smaller trim up to largish cabinet doors and large cabinets. If you want to make full size hardwood doors, or large dining tables I suspect the DF700 (it's bigger bother) would be better suited, but I've made some sizeable custom storage units with this and the joints are so tight and secure they pretty much hold themselves square while dry assembling, which is much much better than any biscuit joiner I've ever used.

Faulty
Read so much hype about Festool and was really looking forward to receiving this tool. However, after using it for a couple of months the on off button jams on, and have to turn off by the plug, which is pretty dangerous and not practical.
