Roman Empire
It is a well-written and researched book tracing the evolution of the Roman Republic and the creation of the Pax Americana. The reader will find critical historical information regarding that historical period. Specifically, Rome faced severe changes in its socio-political and military structures. It is a well-presented book.

The Roman Empire a study in world history
The Roman Empire was the most powerful Empire in ancient times. After it's fall it was the pattern after which most of the of Nations built their political systems. The social structure of the empire was followed and created a basis for the politics and the social structure for all of the period up to the Renaissance and beyond. In order to understand the beginnings of our civilization we must go back and study this ancient empire and its structure. This book by Enthralling History is an excellent source to the history and the politics of the empire. It also follows the development of Christianity until it became the official religion of the empire. This book is Rich with maps and illustrations to help you understand the movements of the Empire and its growth and it depicts the emperors and other artifacts which show the development of the empire. Augustus Caesar was the man who changed he Roman Republic to an Empire and introduced a period of peace where internal Civil Wars ceased. The Roman Empire made many mistakes which attributed to its fall. Some of these were removing precious metals from the coins causing inflation, making a welfare state, weakening the military by overextending the resources, providing entertainment for the masses and allowing the upper class to live in luxury. This book also tells of the times of each of the emperors down to the demise of the empire. In order to avoid the mistakes of the past it is imperative that we study them, if we do not we will relive them. This is why it is important for us to study the civilizations of the past, such as Rome, in order to look at their history and identify the mistakes which they made. When I was a history teacher I would have loved to have had this book as a resource to stimulate the interest of my students. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the Roman Empire or who would like to study the origins of many of our modern political institutions. You will not be disappointed. The prose is easy to read and is well researched.

An informative read on the Roman Empire
Enthralling History provides an interesting three-hour read about the history of the Roman Empire. The book starts by declaring that the Empire was not the first civilization as it follows Mesopotamia, the Nile region, the Greeks, and a growing civilization in China. Despite a late arrival, the Roman Empire became one of the most powerful empires in the world, encompassing Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, and parts of West Asia. The Roman military experienced many defeats in their campaigns but was resilient and refused to accept their defeats. Unfortunately, the empire was governed by weak and selfish emperors and the empire suffered economic crises, famine, and deadly plagues. The manuscript spends time with significant emperors and opens with a graphic description of Julius Caesar's assassination and the impact on Rome's leadership. Other significant leaders are discussed: Caligula, Claudius, Nero, and Augustus. Another chapter tells us about other emperors: Nerva, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, and Marcus Aurelius. In addition to discussing historical facts, Enthralling History provides information about daily life, trade, social customs, art and architecture. A bibliography for further reading is provided at the end.

Thorough, interesting read
The Roman Empire is such an important topic to learn about. This book presented an interesting overview of the second portion of ancient Roman history, from Emperor Augustus to the fall of the Roman Empire.I appreciated that it was easy to read and yet very informative and thorough. In the first part of the book, the authors take you through the emperors, one by one, describing a brief overview of each man, as well as characteristics of how he ruled and accomplishments from his time in power. The subsequent chapters of the book go through various topics such as social structure, arts, daily life, etc.My favorite chapter was on the daily life and customs as it presented a day in the life of a typical roman citizen.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
