There isn't a lot more I can add to what people have already said about this phone.My mum is in a nursing home and unable to use a standard mobile and so this is a godsend. I can't work out how I never spotted this before! I had been looking for months for something and this popped up on Amazon recently.I bought a Tesco Pay As You Go sim card, validated it on my mobile phone, bought a Tesco mobile voucher for £10 and added the credit. It works perfectly with a very good signal and the audio is clear.It works just like the phones my mum remembers from decades ago and so she took to it very quickly. It's very easy to programme numbers in and so she can phone us by just tapping two keys. The nursing home is very interested in it, as it would be a solution for other residents. Thank you Opis, for such a marvellous device.

My elderly mother cannot navigate menu driven systems, read a screen or even differentiate between a mobile phone and a tv controller. Add that to Virgin Media’s utter contempt for the needs of vulnerable elderly people, and the regular failure of their VOIP phone lines, and you have the perfect storm.This phone solves the problem with its absolute simplicity: Put in a PAYG sim (tesco giffgaff etc) and plug it in - It works. It is well made and weighty enough to stay on a table, Lift handset, dial (it dials easily) and then talk, put the receiver down to hang up.No menus, no undocumented features, no complex setup (although you can asign 9 numbers to speeddial).The only downside is that it doesnt have a UK dialing tone, it has a continental tone which to many sounds like an engaged tone, but after a while it gets familiar enough.To be honest I wasnt expecting great things from this product, but it is a brilliant product. It also has a 5 hour battery life so can be used if power fails or if you need to relocate to the garden.

I ordered this telephone from Amazon because my Broadband connection has been upgraded to full fibre and that does not include a landline allowing you to use a traditional phone with a loud bell. Getting this phone to work is easy. When it arrives, you have to plug it into the mains to charge it up. The charge lasts a week on standby and gives 4 hours of talk time.This phone takes a SIM card. I ordered a Vodafone SIM card for 49p from Amazon. I put this SIM in a Vodafone handset that I had and activated it. I went on Vodafone's website and put £10 credit on the SIM card. Then I took the SIM card out of my handset and put it into this OPIS phone. No problems at all. There are 3 LED lights under the phone where the SIM card fits that tell you whether or not the phone is charged and has connected to the network. This OPIS phone is not of as good quality as a traditional 1960s GPO phone. It has a continental style of ringing and does not sound exactly like a GPO phone. But that's a minor gripe. The dial is not as good as a GPO phone, but it is good enough and works okay. This phone is good for an elderly person with sight problems. You can set it so that only a single digit needs to be dialled to call a specific number.Once this OPIS phone is charged up and has a SIM card fitted, it behaves like a landline phone. When somebody phones you it rings with a loud bell. You can set this OPIS phone with an area STD dialling code that will allow you to dial local numbers without entering an area code. This phone is a bit expensive. But if you want the reassurance of a telephone with a handset that you can pick up to answer a call and a dial, then this OPIS telephone is for you.

I bought this dial phone for my mother who is in a care home and can no longer manage to use a mobile phone. She needed something that was both simple and familiar. It worked! She can now answer a call and because I programmed the quick dial feature can call me too but not anyone else by mistake! She has all the benefits of a landline phone without the extortionate line rentalI am impressed by the build quality and accuracy to a legacy phone. It has a solid feel with the weight that phoned used to have all those years ago. My subjective judgement is that the audio is better than my mobile - perhaps because there's room for a better speaker in the earpiece.A few pointers. If you do want to restrict outgoing calls be sure to contact the excellent customer service team for the additional instructions. I had to initialise the PAYGO SIM using my mobile - a micro SIM - so be sure to have a SIM adapter to instal into the new phone. Check whether the button phone would suit you better - Mum asked two care home staff to help with her first call but they couldn't work out how the dial thing worked!My family all love the look of the phone too. I can't fault it and it's excellent value for money.

Phone did not work

I bought this phone for my elderly mother who has dementia. She was feeling cut off, as was forgetting how to use her smart phone. This phone is only to make calls, but that is all we wanted. It is very simple to programme in 9 phone numbers. She has found it extremely easy to make and receive calls.
